DescriptionThe whole story▼
The X.WED3 Atlantic Carbon Blue is Nexx's most completely equipped adventure helmet in a finish that lets the material speak: dark blue tinted carbon, black peak, small orange details. The X.WED3 is the one to choose if you want everything on the helmet itself, a peak, a goggle-ready eye port, a sealed visor and a drop-down sun visor, and are prepared to carry a little more weight for that. The shell is X-PRO Carbon, approved to ECE 22-06; sizes run from XS to XXXL.
About the Atlantic Carbon Blue finish
Atlantic is a plain carbon colourway rather than a graphic. The woven fibre is visible all over the shell and peak, tinted a deep navy so that it reads as almost black indoors and as rich ocean blue in sunlight. The peak and the lower trims are black, and small orange accents near the chin strap and at the rear add a technical touch. The product photo shows the helmet with a blue mirrored visor. The surface reflections suggest a gloss clear coat, though Nexx does not confirm matt or gloss in writing. A lacquered carbon helmet is quick to clean after a dusty day; a damp cloth is enough, and light marks can be polished. Deep scratches cut into the clear coat and the weave and cannot be hidden. Without large painted areas, there is no graphic to chip at the edges, which suits a helmet that will be dropped on gravel sooner or later.
Everything on board
Where the lighter X.RALLY asks you to pick a shield before you ride, the X.WED3 gives you options on the move. An internal sun visor, which Nexx says is 18 percent larger than before, drops down in front of the main visor. The panoramic Lexan visor has an anti-fog position and Super Lock, and arrives with a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision anti-fog lens fitted. The peak adjusts to several positions and can be lengthened with the supplied extensor. A goggle-strap holder at the back keeps goggles in place for off-road sections. Few adventure helmets carry this much without add-ons.
What is in the box for Atlantic
Nexx's 2027 product text for X.WED3 Atlantic lists a clear visor, a smoke visor with 80 percent tint, a Pinlock 120 XLT insert and a bag, and the Nexx website adds the peak extensor, extra peak screws, top, side and chin camera mounts, wind deflector, road covers, visor-mechanism covers, strap-holder cover and a winter chin filter. The blue mirrored visor in the photograph is not part of that list. If you want a mirror visor, it is an accessory; ask us for the matching part. The smoke visor is for daylight only, not for dusk or night.
Road, trail or goggles
The X.WED3 converts tool-free between three set-ups. With peak and visor it is an adventure helmet for mixed days. With the visor removed, the eye port takes goggles for off-road work, and the goggle-strap holder keeps the strap located. With the peak removed and the supplied road covers fitted, it rides like a road full-face with less lift at motorway speeds. The Recoil visor mounting works independently of the peak.
Protection details
Nexx fits X-Foam EPP crash bumpers on the chin and sides of the X-PRO Carbon versions, an elastic foam layer that recovers after impact. The EPS liner is the Anti-Vibration type, with an inner layer decoupled by rubber elements. Nexx also shapes the chin to reduce the risk of chest injury in a frontal impact. F.R.S. (patent pending) lets rescuers pull the cheek pads out so the helmet can be removed more gently. Retention is a Double-D ring with an X-LOCK magnetic catch.
ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC, NBR
The helmet is approved to ECE 22-06 (UN), DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015. ECE 22-06, compulsory for new helmets sold in Europe since 2024, tests many more impact points at several speeds than 22-05, adds oblique impacts against an abrasive anvil to assess rotational loads, and tests fitted accessories, including peak and sun visor, in place. Three outer shell sizes, XXS–S, M–L and XL–XXXL, keep the shell proportional to the head.
The weight you are carrying
Nexx quotes approx. 1,725 g ± 50 g depending on size; one independent road test weighed a size M at 1,797 g. That is on the heavy side for a carbon adventure helmet, and it is the price of carrying a sun visor mechanism and a full peak. On a long day the peak acts as a lever in the wind, so set it to the flattest position for motorway stages and consider removing it for long road transfers. Riders who prioritise low weight should compare the X.RALLY.
Air and noise
Seven closable intakes and four exhausts, the Mid Airflow Chamber between shell and liner and the Air Cumbs crown chamber handle airflow. Reviewers do not agree on how well it works: one measured test scored ventilation low, while others found the airflow good on the move. Noise is the other honest point. Independent testing rated it average, and one magazine found that open vents whistle at speed. We do not quote a decibel figure; plan on earplugs for highway riding.
Interior and fit
The liner uses X.MART DRY fabric, anti-sweat and anti-allergic, with 3D-moulded pads that are removable and washable, plus removable chin-strap covers and a chin wind deflector. Reviewers describe the fit as true to size with an intermediate to long oval shape, and the helmet as friendly to glasses wearers.
Before you buy
The X.WED3 is not light, it is not quiet with the vents open, and ventilation at low speed is debated. SHARP has not tested it, and there is no ADAC result. The blue mirror visor shown in the photo is not included. On the positive side, it is one of the few adventure helmets that combines sun visor, peak, goggle compatibility and fitted Pinlock in one shell.
Intercom, camera and spares
The shell is prepared for Nexx X.COM3 (Bluetooth 5.2). Camera mounts for top, side and a four-position chin mount come with the helmet. Visors, Pinlock lenses, peaks and pad sets are available as X.WED3 spare parts.
