DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Knox Tor in all black is an armoured shirt built for adventure riding in heat. Tor is an old word for a rocky hill, and Knox designed the shirt for long days on and off road, when a full adventure jacket becomes a sauna and the terrain still demands real protection.
Close to the body, the Tor holds Micro-Lock Compact Level 2 armour at shoulders and elbows plus a full-length back protector, and the garment itself is certified to EN 17092 Class AA. That means you can ride in it with no jacket on top.
Key Features
- EN 17092 Class AA certified – worn on its own, no jacket required
- Micro-Lock Compact Level 2 shoulders and elbows, full-length Level 2 back protector
- High-tenacity nylon with spandex and two-tone In-Motion mesh
- Five external zipped pockets with reflective pulls, four inside
- Key clip in the right chest pocket, visor wipe in the left
- Adjustable rivet cuffs and raglan sleeves
- Velcro mount for an optional chest protector and Knox belt loops
Armour That Stays in Place
An armoured shirt solves a problem every adventure rider knows: in a loose jacket the elbow pad drifts away from the elbow just when you need it. The Tor is cut close, so the Micro-Lock Compact protectors sit where they belong whether you stand on the pegs or sit down on the motorway.
Knox fits Level 2 protectors at shoulders and elbows and a full-length Level 2 back protector. Inside the front is a Velcro mounting for a Knox chest protector, which is sold separately.
Fabric and Airflow
Knox combines a super lightweight high-tenacity fabric with a new two-tone In-Motion mesh. Main body fabric is 95 percent nylon and 5 percent spandex; mesh and stretch panels are placed where you sweat and move most. The result is a shirt that breathes on a hot gravel track and still has the abrasion resistance for Class AA.
Raglan sleeves avoid a seam across the top of the shoulder, which helps when you lift your arms to the bars on an upright adventure bike.
Storage for Travel
Five external zipped pockets with reflective pullers, four at the front and one at the rear, take a phone, wallet, documents and snacks. The right chest pocket has an internal clip for keys, while the left one hides a cloth visor wipe for bugs and dust.
Open the front and there are four more internal pockets for valuables. Knox's security belt loops let you connect the shirt to your riding trousers.
Part of the Seasonless System
The black Tor is the core layer in Knox's Seasonless approach. When the weather turns, Knox's packable Tor Shell (Charcoal for the black shirt) goes on top, and a Union Quilt can be added for warmth under or over the shirt. You keep one set of protectors and change only the layers around it.
What You Should Know
The Tor is not waterproof and not warm; it is made for heat. Rain protection comes from a separate shell, sold on its own or bundled as the Tor Duo. The chest protector is optional and not included.
It is a close-fitting garment. If you are between sizes, Knox recommends choosing the larger one.
Colour
All Black is the classic Tor: plain, discreet and easy to combine with any adventure trousers. On a sunny dirt road black absorbs more heat than the Light Grey version, and dusty trails will leave visible marks, but it hides oil and chain grease better than any lighter colour. At night the reflective piping, zip pulls and neck prints provide the visibility.
