DescriptionThe whole story▼
The biggest single in the KTM enduro range pulls hard enough off the bottom that a 500 EXC-F can loft the front wheel over obstacles smaller bikes have to pick a way around, and all that extra torque goes through the chain and sprocket just the same as on any other bike in the family. Accossato lists the GCM1 for the 500 EXC-F built from 2012 to 2016, a chain guide fitted ahead of the sprocket to keep the chain tracking true under that load.
Key Features
- Chain guide for the KTM 500 EXC-F, 2012 to 2016
- Accossato code GCM1, mounts ahead of the rear sprocket
- Keeps the chain tracking on line rather than drifting off the sprocket
- Orange, blue or black
- Same part also listed for the Husqvarna FC 450 and the KTM 125 EXC
- Accossato also lists swingarm sliders and axle blocks for this bike under GPM1, GSM1, RCM1 and RTM1
- No German ABE on file; built for off-road and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato shapes the GCM1 to the 500 EXC-F's own swingarm, sitting ahead of the sprocket in the position this particular frame calls for. The three finishes on offer, orange, blue and black, let an owner match the guide to the rest of the bike without changing what it does. A guide that no longer sits flush against the sprocket after a hard knock is worth pulling and checking.
The Biggest Engine in the Family
Riding a 500 EXC-F after time spent on a smaller enduro model takes some adjustment, since the extra pull makes the bike feel like it covers ground in fewer, bigger bursts rather than a steady build, and that same extra force passes through the chain line exactly as it would on a smaller machine, just with more of it on tap. A chain guide ahead of the sprocket does the same basic job regardless of how much power the engine makes, holding the chain on its path so a single rock or root does not catch it at the wrong moment. Riders new to this size of bike sometimes check the chain line more often simply out of unfamiliarity with how hard the engine can pull.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's own list runs the 500 EXC-F on the GCM1 from 2012 to 2016, and the identical guide also covers the Husqvarna FC 450 along with the smaller KTM 125 EXC. A bike bought anywhere in that run is worth checking against the list before ordering. This 500 EXC-F also takes the GPM1 slider, the GSM1 floating slider and either style of axle block from Accossato's range.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on file for the GCM1, so Accossato lists it for off-road and competition use rather than for a bike ridden on public roads.
