Ask what an air filter costs an engine and the honest answer is that the number refuses to hold still. A clean element takes a small slice of the pressure at the intake; the same element half loaded takes a larger one; and the curve between those two states is what an owner actually lives with. On an F4RC, catalogued from 2015 all the way to 2026 and generally ridden hard when it is ridden at all, that curve is the entire argument for R189S-SBK.
Key Features
- WorldSBK-specification framed element in dry P08 polyester
- 80 µm aperture, 5,050 l/m²/sec, across roughly double the filtering area of other performance filters
- Never oiled — a dry medium leaves nothing to be drawn downstream onto intake sensors
- Cleaned back towards its starting condition rather than degrading towards a replacement date
- Drops into the standard airbox: no cutting, no repositioning, no mapping change
- Designed for the life of the motorcycle, two years of warranty from purchase
The number that moves
Loss across a medium rises with the volume passing through it, so it is smallest in traffic and largest with the throttle open high in the rev range. It also rises as the medium fills, and in paper that second rise is permanent: every kilometre pushes the curve a little further up, and it only comes back down when the panel is thrown out. Compressed air resets the polyester version instead. The practical effect is not extra power — an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger — but an intake that behaves in month eleven of a service interval much as it did in month one.
Twelve model years is a long time to own an intake
The F4RC has been listed since 2015, so a machine bought early in that run has had a decade of air pulled through it. Filters do not age by odometer reading; they age by the volume and the cleanliness of the air they have passed, which is why two bikes showing identical mileage can be in completely different condition inside the airbox. A washable element turns that from guesswork into something you can look at: remove it, clean it, look again. Nothing about the state of the intake has to be inferred from a service book.
Care and cleaning
Between sessions the tool is a compressor line held against the clean face of R189S-SBK, blowing outward until the cloth is even in colour again. Between seasons it may deserve more: lukewarm water and a mild washing-up detergent worked gently through the medium, then rinsed until the run-off is clear. After that the element needs only time and moving air. Applying heat — a gun, a radiator, an open flame — is what damages polyester, so it is the one shortcut never to take. It returns to the airbox dry and untreated. The cleaning instructions are filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the airbox of the MV Agusta F4RC 1000 from 2015 to 2026. Seven further machines appear on the same fitment list: the F4RC LH beside it, the earlier F4, F4R and F4RR below it, and the Brutale Oro, Brutale RR and Rush covering the naked side.
