The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Most air filters are a panel: a sheet of medium in a moulded surround, fitted once and thrown away. R189S-SBK is not built that way. It is a WorldSBK-specification assembly — a carbon fibre frame carrying the dry P08 cloth — and the frame is as much the product as the medium stretched across it. That construction is the reason the part sits at roughly four times what a standard P08 panel for a road MV costs, and the reason it is worth a paragraph of its own below.
Key Features
- Carbon fibre frame carrying the medium — a WorldSBK-specification assembly, not a paper panel
- Dry woven polyester, never oiled when new and never re-treated after a wash
- The P08 cloth: an 80 µm aperture, a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, made for road and track
- 93.13 % of 100-micron particles held back under measurement; four-layer oiled cotton managed 76.42 %
- Seals into the standard airbox — nothing cut, nothing repositioned, no remap
- Cleaned and refitted instead of replaced, with two years of warranty from purchase
Why the frame is worth a paragraph
A paper panel is discarded, so nobody ever thinks about what holds it. This one is kept, which makes the frame the component your hands are on every few thousand kilometres. Carbon fibre does not swell when the element is washed and does not corrode afterwards, and it holds the cloth at a constant tension, so the shape sealing against the airbox is the shape it had when new. On a part designed to come out and go back in dozens of times, that is a more useful property than it sounds. What it is not is a power claim: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably faster, and this one is no exception.
Two model years, a part number that runs to 2026
The Oro is listed for 2019 and 2020 only, the shortest window of any machine on this fitment list. The part number does not stop there. It carries on through the Brutale RR to 2026, picks up the Rush from 2020, and reaches back to the F4 range of 2013. Eight motorcycles hold this item in production, which is the practical half of the story for anyone running a machine with a two-year build window: the intake side is served by a component whose supply does not depend on how many Oros were made.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the routine work on R189S-SBK. Hold the assembly by its carbon frame, aim the line at the clean face and work outward, so that what the cloth caught leaves along the path it came in on. When a session leaves behind more than air will lift, a bath in lukewarm water with a mild washing-up detergent finishes the job; rinse the medium until nothing further comes out of it. Then it dries in open air and nowhere else, because a heat gun, a radiator or a flame is what ruins polyester. It is refitted dry, with nothing applied to it. Look under Downloads for the maintenance sheet.
