DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plain White is the bright, clean counterpart in the X.R5R line-up, the racing full-face Nexx launched for 2027. A solid white shell, grey Nexx script, dark trim along the lower edge, and in the product photo a dark smoke visor and spoiler blade. The helmet underneath weighs about 1,475 g in its X-Matrix 2 composite form, is approved to ECE 22.06 and brings the new X.R5R features with it: four shells, a visor that locks shut at speed, 8 intakes, a spoiler you can lengthen by hand, and an action-camera mount for the chin.
About the Plain White finish
Where most racing helmets lean on graphics, Plain White relies on a single colour. Nexx names it without the MT suffix used for its matt finishes, and the reflections in the studio picture point to a gloss surface. The logo is printed in a light grey that almost disappears from a distance, the rubber trim around the base of the shell is dark grey, and the visor and spoiler in the photo are smoked. It is a timeless look that suits any bike colour and leaves room for your own stickers or race number.
White has practical advantages. It reflects sunlight, so the helmet stays cooler in the paddock and on hot afternoons, and it is easier for other road users to see than black. Gloss paint can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a little helmet cleaner, and fine swirl marks can be polished out with a non-abrasive product. The other side is that dirt, rubber marks and exhaust soot show up quickly, so expect to wipe it down after every ride.
Weight first: 1,475 g
Nexx gives the X-Matrix 2 version of the X.R5R as approximately 1,475 g ± 50 g. That places it between the X.R5R carbon models at about 1,325 g and the composite X.R3R Speedcore at about 1,650 g. For a helmet with a long rear spoiler, an action-camera mount and a full racing visor mechanism, that is a reasonable figure for a composite shell, and on a fast lap your neck will feel the difference to a heavier lid more than your scales will.
A visor that stays shut
High speed tends to lift a visor slightly at the lower edge, letting in a stream of air at exactly the wrong moment. Nexx answers this with the X-Race lock on the X.R5R, which holds the visor firmly closed. The more compact mechanism also offers three intermediate positions, so you can crack the visor a little at walking pace in the pit lane. The visor clips off by hand, is drilled for tear-offs and arrives with a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision lens. A second visor is included; Nexx does not name its tint, and the smoke visor in the photo does not confirm it.
Ventilation you can close
Eight inlets feed the X.R5R, including a chin vent and top vents that can both be shut when it is cold or wet. Further air comes in through the cheek pads, and five exhausts at the rear pull the warm air out. Inside, the Air Cumbs chamber distributes the flow. We do not rate how well it works, because no independent test is available yet for this helmet.
Fit system and glasses
The 360° Custom Fit interior lets you change pads to tune the fit around the head and cheeks, which helps riders whose head shape sits between two sizes. The X-Mart Dry lining is removable and washable. The X.R5R manual states that the helmet is suitable for glasses, a useful point for riders who wear prescription lenses on the road. The cheek pads can be pulled out by rescuers in an emergency.
Built for the track day
Several details of the X.R5R are aimed at circuit riders. The chin mount holds an action camera, turns through 360° and locks in four positions. X-Hidro straps route the tube of a hydration pack so you can drink without removing the helmet between sessions or during endurance stints. The double D-ring strap is held by an X-Lock magnetic stud. Night-vision reflectors are fitted for the ride home. The helmet is also universal intercom ready.
Spoiler that grows by 20 mm
The rear spoiler takes an extensor that slides in and can be set up to 20 mm longer without tools. Use the longer setting when you ride tucked behind a race screen, where it helps stabilise the helmet in the airflow, and the shorter one on more upright bikes. The extensor comes in the box.
Why X.R3R parts do not fit
If you already own an X.R3R and a drawer full of visors, they will not carry over. The X.R5R has a new visor mechanism, a different spoiler mount and four shells instead of three. Nexx has not yet released a range of X.R5R visors and accessories, so for now the parts in the box are what you have. According to the launch coverage, all plastic parts of the X.R5R will be available as spares.
Shell and sizes
The X-Matrix 2 shell is a multi-composite laminate built up from several layers of fibre in different directions. Nexx makes it in four shell sizes, XXS-S, M, L and XL-XXL, and offers seven helmet sizes from XXS to XXL; in our shop you will find XS to XXL. Four shells keep the outside of the helmet in proportion across the range. Measure your head above the eyebrows and compare it with the size chart.
The approval that counts in Europe
Plain White carries ECE 22.06, the regulation that has applied to every new road helmet sold in the EU since 2024. Compared with the older 22.05, the laboratory now chooses additional impact sites on the shell, tests at more than one impact energy and adds an angled drop onto an abrasive anvil to measure the rotation transmitted to the head. Visors are checked for impact strength and optical quality, and accessories sold for fitting to the helmet are assessed with the helmet. Nexx lists additional markings for markets outside Europe; here we rely on the ECE approval.
Things it does not do
The X.R5R has no internal sun visor, so plan on a tinted visor for bright days. It is not FIM homologated. Because it was only launched in late October 2026, there are no independent tests, star ratings or published noise measurements yet, and we do not invent them. The box contents we list do not include a helmet bag. And it is about 150 g heavier than the carbon versions of the same helmet.
