Pure is the plain line of the Falcon S, and pearl white is the classic motocross colour for a reason that is entirely practical rather than traditional.
A motocross helmet — goggles, not a visor
🔵 The Falcon S is a motocross helmet and it has no visor. It is designed to be worn with off-road goggles, and the wide aperture is sized for them.
The deep peak and the open face that make it work on a track are exactly what make it loud and draughty at sustained road speed. It is a track, trail and green-lane helmet, and it is not intended for motorway use.
About the gloss pearl white finish
Heat management is the argument, and on an off-road helmet it is a serious one. A rider working hard on a track or a trail produces far more metabolic heat than any road rider, and a white shell reflects the solar load a dark one converts directly into interior temperature. Combine that with the Falcon S's multiple front intakes and rear extractors and this becomes the coolest-running version of an already well-ventilated helmet. There is a second argument too: against a brown track, a green treeline and a grey sky, white is among the easiest colours for a marshal or another rider to resolve at distance. 🔵 The trade is obvious to anyone who has ridden in mud — white shows everything, and after one wet session it will look nothing like it did in the van. That is cosmetic rather than structural, and it cleans up perfectly well — a pearl white shell washed after a muddy session looks new again, which is more than can be said for a scratched gloss finish on a road helmet.
ECE 22.06 — and the DOT the older Falcon had
🔵 A generation trap worth knowing. The older MT „Falcon" was certified to ECE 22.05 and carried a DOT approval. This is the Falcon S, certified to the current ECE 22.06 — and MT publishes no DOT marking for it.
We are not going to claim a certification the manufacturer does not list. If DOT matters to you, check the label on the helmet itself.
HIRP and 1350 grams
The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — at approximately 1350 g, which is light for an off-road helmet and a consequence of having no visor mechanism and no sun visor to carry.
🔵 Weight matters more on an MX helmet than on a road one, because your head is moving constantly and the peak sits on a lever arm out front.
The adjustable peak
The peak is adjustable, which on an off-road helmet is a functional control rather than a styling one: set it lower for shade and roost, flatter to reduce lift on a fast section or a road transfer.
🔵 A motocross peak is designed to break away under load rather than resist it — that protects your neck at the cost of the peak, and it is the right trade.
Intakes, extractors and why an MX helmet runs cool
Ventilation is a core strength here: multiple front intakes feed the rider and rear extractors pull the used air out — far more through-flow than any road helmet needs.
🔵 That is because a rider working hard off-road generates heat closer to a runner's than to a motorcyclist's, and a road helmet's ventilation is simply not built for it.
The double D-ring
Retention is a double D-ring — the closure racing regulations require, and the one MT fits across its off-road range. There is no mechanism to fail, no plastic teeth to strip with grit and no adjustment that can drift.
🔵 It takes a moment longer than a ratchet and gives exactly the same tension every time, which off-road is the more important property.
What this helmet does not have
🔵 What this helmet does not have: no face shield, no internal sun visor, and no intercom provision. None of those appears in MT's specification for the Falcon S.
That is not an omission — it is what a motocross helmet is. Eye protection comes from goggles, shade comes from the peak, and there is nowhere sensible to put speakers in a shell this open.
Choosing the right size
Measure the circumference of your head around the widest part, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and compare it against the chart below. The Falcon S runs from XS to XL — five sizes.
🔵 A helmet you can rotate on your head by hand with the strap fastened is too big, whatever the tape says.
Where it sits in MT's range
The Falcon S is MT's entry motocross helmet and the only pure off-road model in the range. Everything else with off-road capability — the Track SV and the District SV S — has a visor and is usable on the road.
🔵 If your riding includes meaningful tarmac, one of those is the better tool. This one is for goggles and dirt.
When something wears out
The parts most likely to need replacing on this helmet are the peak and the interior padding, and both are separately available.
🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside — and off-road helmets take more impacts than road ones.
