Owners who pick the MT-09 SP over the standard bike often do so because they already plan to ride it harder, and that includes the odd trackday where tyre pressures, suspension settings and chain tension all need checking between sessions with the rear wheel off the ground. A rushed pit stop, with a paddock stand set up on a hurried, slightly uneven piece of trackside tarmac, is where the rear of the bike is most exposed. Construction and Material Quality
The PP080 combines aluminium and plastic in both of its black protectors, one for the left and one for the right side at the rear of the MT-09 SP. Accossato's own account places the spacers, screws and every other part needed for mounting inside the kit. At a hurried trackside stop, if a paddock stand set up on uneven ground slips while someone checks the chain or the suspension, the sliders are there to meet the ground before the swingarm and the rear axle area, which can reduce what those parts suffer. They are built to be used up in that role.
A Rushed Pit Stop Between Sessions
Between trackday sessions there is rarely enough time to do everything properly, and a paddock stand hurried into place on ground that has not been checked for level or debris is an easy mistake to make when the next session is already being called. Checking chain slack or suspension settings with the bike raised means putting real weight through that stand, and a pin that has not fully engaged the swingarm, or a stand foot resting on a stray stone, can let the rear drop without warning. If it does, the fall happens fast, often before anyone nearby can react. The rear sliders are there for precisely that moment; check them, and the chain alignment, before the bike goes back out.
Fitment and Compatibility
The PP080 is tied to the single 2018 model year on Accossato's list for the MT-09 SP, which our listing follows. At the front, the PF040 sliders apply, with the TP097 crash pads covering the fairing. This same rear slider is also catalogued in our shop against the standard MT-09, the Tracer 900 GT and the XSR900. If your SP does not clearly match, get in touch before ordering rather than guess.
