DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sunday group rides are where many Monster 1200 owners spend their happiest hours, and where a surprising number of slow-speed falls happen. A long line of bikes behaves like an accordion: the front slows for a junction, the gaps shrink all the way back, and someone near the end has to brake hard at walking pace, perhaps on a patch of gravel, perhaps with the bars turned. Over goes the bike, onto its side and its tail. Accossato's PP069 gives the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2017 a pair of black rear axle sliders for that moment.
Key Features
- Rear axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2017
- Accossato rear fork protection, code PP069
- Two protectors, one on each side
- Aluminium and plastic, black
- Spacers, screws and all installation parts included, according to Accossato
- Intended to take the scrape in place of the swingarm
- No German ABE documented; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato calls the PP069 its rear fork protection. It comes as two black protectors made of aluminium and plastic, and the maker states that spacers, screws and every other mounting part belong to the kit. At the back of the Monster 1200, such sliders should reach the ground before the swingarm and the rear axle area when the bike tips or slides, which can reduce the damage to those parts. They are there to be sacrificed, so one that has been ground flat or cracked should be replaced rather than admired. Accossato, today based in Villastellone near Turin, lists the PP069 for several Ducati models.
Riding in a Group Without the Accordion
The concertina effect cannot be abolished, but it can be softened. Leave a generous gap to the bike in front, larger than feels necessary, and ride in a staggered formation on straight roads so that each rider has room to brake without steering. Before a junction or a tight bend, look past the rider ahead to the front of the group; if the leaders slow, ease off early instead of braking late. When the group stops, pick your own spot rather than taking the only space left, which is often the one with loose gravel or the steepest camber. Organisers can help too, with a clear briefing, a marker at each turn and a steady pace at the front, so that nobody at the back feels the need to close gaps at speed. A Monster 1200 with its wide bars is easy to steer at low speed, but not when its rider is taken by surprise.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Monster 1200, Accossato gives the PP069 with the years 2014 to 2017, and its list has no rear sliders for the later bikes of this model. At the front, the PF05 covers 2014 to 2018 and the PF049 2019 to 2021, while the TP080 crash pads are listed for 2014 to 2018. The same rear sliders appear in our catalogue for the Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the X Diavel. When they are on your Monster 1200, turn the rear wheel by hand and make sure that neither the chain nor the brake caliper touches anything.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no test certificate is available to us for the PP069; we therefore list it for racing and competition.
