The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak was the sportiest Multistrada of its generation, and its riders tend to use the rear tyre with some enthusiasm on warm mountain roads. Summer brings a hazard many of those roads share: tar snakes, the strips of bitumen sealant that road crews pour into cracks. On a hot afternoon they soften and turn slippery, and a rear wheel that crosses one under power can twitch sideways, sometimes at the worst moment. For the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak of 2016 and 2017, Accossato lists the PP069 rear axle sliders in black.

Construction and Material Quality
The PP069 is a pair of black protectors made of aluminium and plastic, which Accossato calls its rear fork protection. Spacers, screws and every other part needed for mounting come in the kit, the company says. At the back of the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak, the sliders are intended to be the first point of contact in a fall or slide, ahead of the swingarm and the rear axle area, and that can reduce the damage there. Rear sliders take a lot of abuse when a bike slides, so after any fall look at each protector and its fixing, and replace one that has been worn through or cracked.
Sealant Strips on a Hot Afternoon
Tar snakes are easy to spot once you know what to look for: shiny black lines, often wavy, running along or across the lane where the tarmac has been patched. In cool weather they are merely a little less grippy than the road around them. In heat, particularly in the afternoon sun, the sealant softens and a tyre can slide on it as if on oil. The answer is to see them early and adjust. Cross them as upright as possible, with a steady throttle rather than a burst of acceleration, and avoid braking hard with a wheel on a strip. Where a bend is laced with them, choose a line that crosses them at an angle rather than riding along one, and carry a little less speed into the corner. A small twitch is normal; stay relaxed on the bars and let the bike sort itself out. On the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak, with its sporty set-up, it is tempting to ride the same line as on a cool morning; on a hot afternoon, give the road its due.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PP069 for the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak of 2016 and 2017, and those are the years in our shop. The PF05 front axle sliders are given for this bike with the same years.
