DescriptionThe whole story▼
The BMW R 1200 GS is built to go almost anywhere, and many owners take it at least now and then onto rocky tracks and old military roads in the mountains. There, the challenge is not speed but balance: a rock step, a stall, a boot that finds no ground, and the heavy bike goes over. For the R 1200 GS, Accossato lists the PF048, a pair of black front axle sliders, for the years 2009 to 2012 and 2017 to 2018.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the BMW R 1200 GS, 2009 to 2012 and 2017 to 2018
- Accossato front fork protection, code PF048
- Two pieces, one for each side
- Aluminium and plastic, black
- Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the box (Accossato)
- Meant to reach the ground first in a tip-over
- No German ABE documented; for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Two black protectors make up the PF048, and Accossato builds them from aluminium together with plastic. The kit includes the spacers, screws and all the other parts the manufacturer specifies for mounting. On an adventure bike that sees rough ground, front sliders are there to be the first thing at the front to touch down when the R 1200 GS goes over, which may reduce the damage to the fork and the axle area. Sliders that have met too many rocks are replaced.
Rocks, Steps and Stalls
On rocky ground, most falls happen at walking pace. The front wheel meets a rock, the rider hesitates, the engine stalls, and the bike topples. Stand on the footrests, look ahead rather than at the rocks, and keep a steady throttle with a little clutch slip, letting the bike move beneath you. If you need to stop, choose a place where your foot can reach firm ground. If the GS does go over, switch off the engine and lift it by backing into the seat and pushing with your legs, not your back; on a slope, get help. Then check the sliders, the levers, the handlebar and the fork before riding on. A roll of tape and a spare lever take up little room and can save a trip.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato splits the R 1200 GS into two rows for the PF048: 2009 to 2012 and 2017 to 2018. The first row falls in the last years of the air-cooled engine, the second among the water-cooled bikes, while 2013 to 2016 are not listed; if your R 1200 GS comes from that period, please ask us before ordering. The same sliders are linked in our shop to the R 1200 GS Adventure, the R 1200 GS Exclusive and the R 1250 GS. Accossato offers no other protection part for this bike.
Road Approval
Our records hold neither a German ABE nor a test document for the PF048. It is supplied for use in competition and on closed circuits.
