DescriptionThe whole story▼
The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is made for long journeys, far from the nearest workshop. Its riders cross deserts, mountain ranges and rivers, and a river crossing is one of the classic moments when a heavy bike goes over: slippery stones under the water, a hidden hole, and suddenly the bike is lying in the stream. For the R 1200 GS Adventure, Accossato lists the PF048 from 2006 to 2018, a pair of black front axle sliders.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, 2006 to 2018
- Accossato rows: 2006 to 2013 and 2014 to 2018
- Two protectors, left and right
- Aluminium and plastic, black
- Spacers, screws and all mounting parts included, according to Accossato
- Intended as the first point of contact in a fall
- No German ABE on record; for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Off-road riding runs through Accossato's own history, which includes an Enduro world title in 1985. The company makes the PF048 from aluminium and plastic, in black, and packs two of them, one for each side. According to the manufacturer, spacers, screws and every other part needed for mounting are included. On a long-distance adventure bike, the front sliders are the parts that are allowed to take a beating: when the R 1200 GS Adventure goes over, they should touch the ground first at the front and may reduce the damage to the fork and the axle area. Replace them once they are badly worn.
Crossing a River
Before crossing, walk through the water to check its depth, the current and the bottom. Choose a line with firm, even ground and avoid large stones. Ride the R 1200 GS Adventure through in first or second gear with a steady throttle, standing on the footrests and looking at the far bank, and do not stop in the middle. If the bike falls, switch off the engine at once and do not try to restart it if water may have entered the air intake or the exhaust. Lift the bike and get it out of the water, with help if possible. Then check the engine for water before starting, and look at the sliders, the levers and the handlebar. On a long trip, a riding partner is worth more than any spare part.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Adventure, Accossato's application list uses two rows, 2006 to 2013 and 2014 to 2018, which between them take in the air-cooled and the water-cooled generations of the R 1200 GS Adventure. Inter-Pace also carries the same pair under the R 1200 GS, the R 1200 GS Exclusive and the R nineT. Accossato lists no other protection part for this model; please compare your bike with the list before ordering.
Road Approval
We have not received any approval papers for the PF048, a German ABE or test mark included. Our shop therefore offers these sliders for motorsport and track use.
