DescriptionThe whole story▼
A cross-country course keeps switching between two kinds of riding. One minute a Yamaha YZ250X is flat out across an open field, the next it has to slow for a gap in the trees hardly wider than its handlebar, and the front brake decides how cleanly that change happens. For the YZ250X from 2016 to 2023, Accossato makes the DK268, a fixed front disc in one piece that the supplier describes as steel. It measures 270 mm across and 3 mm thick and, in Accossato's words, is interchangeable with the original.
Key Features
- Fixed front brake disc for the Yamaha YZ250X, 2016 to 2023
- One-piece construction, steel-made as the supplier states
- 270 mm diameter, 118 mm inner diameter
- 3 mm friction band
- Six 6.5 mm fixing holes on a 134 mm circle
- Interchangeable with the disc Yamaha fits as original equipment
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE documented; intended for off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
The DK268 is made as a single part. There is no carrier and no ring of rivets, just a single disc of steel, as the supplier puts it, with a 118 mm opening in the middle and six 6.5 mm holes on a 134 mm circle for the hub bolts. Accossato credits the design and the choice of raw material behind its discs to what it has learned in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and says that keeping their weight down helps the rider steer. On a front wheel that spends its life in the dirt, a one-piece disc has a practical advantage of its own: it offers no joints for mud to settle in. Its minimum working thickness is printed on it.
From the Open Field into the Trees
The hardest stops in a cross-country race rarely happen deep in the woods. They come at the entrance, where a fast field section funnels into a single line between the trees. Every rider in the race brakes at the same spot, lap after lap, so the ground there is soon dug into ridges and holes, and each bike arrives on it close to its highest speed. Riders who get through cleanly do most of their slowing early, on the smoother ground before the ridges begin, sitting back with loose arms so that the fork can work. The lever is squeezed progressively rather than grabbed and eased a little as the front wheel reaches the first bumps, which lets the tyre follow the ground instead of skipping across it. Over a race that can last for hours, that pattern repeats again and again and leaves its mark: pads wear, heat builds and the disc gets thinner. With only 3 mm to begin with, there is not much metal in reserve, so measuring the disc of the YZ250X after every race weekend is a habit worth keeping.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ250X from 2016 to 2023, the longest span it gives for any disc on this bike, and it replaces the single front disc. For riders who want a different character at the front, the same list offers the DK269, a larger floating disc, from 2017 to 2023. The rear wheel of the YZ250X is covered by the DK168, also from 2017 to 2023. Clean the hub face before fitting so that the new disc sits flat and runs true.
Road Approval
The DK268 has no German ABE and no documented type approval. Use it on closed courses and in competition, the setting the YZ250X is made for.
Scope of Delivery
