DescriptionThe whole story▼
The BMW K 1300 S was built to cover ground quickly: a four-cylinder sports tourer with BMW's Duolever front suspension and a calm, stable chassis. Stops from high speed put more energy into the front discs than anything else a road rider does. Accossato lists its fixed DK007 steel disc for the front wheel of the K 1300 S from 2009 to 2012 and for 2015, and states that it can be exchanged for the original disc.
Key Features
- Fixed steel front disc for the BMW K 1300 S, 2009 to 2012 and 2015
- 320 mm outer diameter, 181 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick
- One-piece construction
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Price per disc; the K 1300 S has two at the front
- No German ABE documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The DK007 is one piece of steel, 320 mm in diameter and 5 mm thick, with an inner diameter of 181 mm. Accossato describes it as interchangeable with the disc that came on the bike. The company also emphasises the low weight of its discs, which it says benefits steering and control, and credits its disc expertise to Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.
Stopping from High Speed
The energy a brake has to turn into heat rises with the square of the speed, so slowing a fast bike by half takes far more work than stopping it from town pace. On a K 1300 S, a firm stop from motorway speed heats the front discs quickly, and several in close succession, as on a busy motorway with sudden queues, add heat faster than the airflow can carry it away. A healthy disc copes with this. A thin, worn one has less material to absorb the heat, gets hotter and distorts more readily, and Accossato points out that a worn disc can even break under extreme stress. Leave enough distance to make most stops gentle ones, and after an unavoidable hard stop, avoid holding the bike on the front brake while you wait. Measure the discs regularly, since a K 1300 S covers distance quickly, and replace them once they reach the minimum printed on them.
Fitment and Compatibility
According to Accossato, the DK007 fits the K 1300 S of 2009 to 2012 and of 2015; the years 2013 and 2014 are not on the list for this disc. It replaces an original front disc. The K 1300 S carries two front discs, and the price is for one. Compare diameter, inner opening and thickness with your old disc before fitting.
Road Approval
The DK007 is not covered by a documented German ABE or a type approval; its intended use is the track.
Scope of Delivery
