Gold on a matt grey shell is the most period-correct combination MT offers on this helmet. Gold leaf on a dark shell was the mark of a properly finished helmet in the era the Jarama references, and the pairing has aged better than almost anything else from it.

🔵 The Jarama SV is the „Sun Visor" edition and the second generation of the model. The SV designation across MT's range means an integrated drop-down shield, which on a retro helmet is the feature that makes it usable every day rather than only on the right afternoon.

The silhouette is unchanged; the equipment is not.

About the Wild C2 graphic

Gold works against grey for the same reason it works against black: it is the one accent colour with a value far enough above a mid-dark ground to create real contrast without introducing a competing hue. That is why it has been used on helmets, tanks and instrument faces for a century, and why it looks deliberate here rather than decorative. On a shell whose appeal is its silhouette, an accent that traces the shape rather than filling it is the right approach. Practically, the grey ground does the dirt-hiding work while the gold carries the design, so the helmet weathers better than a fully bright finish would. Gold also has the rare property of looking correct on both a black and a grey ground, which is why it survived as a helmet accent long after most period colours did not. 🔵 The gold elements are the parts that will show scuffing first, and a printed or applied finish cannot be touched in the way a solid colour can. Matt is washed rather than polished. Worth noting that the gold is the reason to choose this version and the reason to look after it: it is the element that dates the helmet if it scuffs, and the element that makes it look considerably more expensive than 144 € while it does not.

HIRP, 1475 grams, ECE 22.06 and DOT

What a thermoplastic shell means in practice: it is injection-moulded rather than laid up by hand, which makes it cheaper to produce and heavier than a composite of equal strength. It also makes it very consistent, because the process is machine-controlled.

🔵 The Jarama SV's is HIRP at roughly 1475 g, with dual ECE 22.06 / DOT approval.

Sizes — read this before ordering

🔵 If you are between two sizes, take the one that does not move when you push the helmet forward with the strap fastened. A helmet you can rotate on your head by hand is too large, whatever the tape says.

With only five sizes there is less room to fine-tune than on MT's wider ranges, so try it on rather than ordering by measurement alone.

The full-coverage sun visor

🔵 With the shield down and the main visor closed you are looking through two surfaces, and any scratch or fog on either becomes visible. Keep both clean, and never wipe either dry — road dust scratches the shield as readily as the visor.

Clean both wet, with plenty of water.

MT-V-32, the rubber lip and the anti-fog insert you buy separately

A rubber-lipped seal is a small engineering decision with a disproportionate effect. Most visors at this price close against the shell edge directly; a compressible lip gives the closure something to seat into, which keeps water out and holds down the whistle that leaks around a visor edge.

🔵 MT cites low noise levels for this helmet. That is a manufacturer's claim rather than a measurement, and no independent test exists.

How quiet it is — and what we actually know

🔵 Perceived noise depends more on your motorcycle than on your helmet — a screen that puts turbulent air at head height will make any helmet loud, where clean air at the same speed will not. On a naked café-style bike, which is what this helmet suits, the airflow is usually clean.

Earplugs remain worthwhile on any sustained fast ride, whatever the shell.

The MT-MDHC closure

🔵 Practise fastening it once with the gloves you actually ride in. A micrometric ratchet is the easiest closure to operate in gloves, but the strap length has to be set correctly first — and that is done bare-handed, once.

Correct tension: one finger under the strap with the helmet on, and no more.

Interior, fit and intercom preparation

🔵 Intercom preparation on a retro helmet is worth pointing out, because the format usually goes the other way — period looks first, equipment second. The Jarama SV has a UCS pre-installation and a full-coverage sun visor, neither of which is period-correct and both of which are useful.

The system itself is a separate purchase.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 MT's range is unusually consistent: almost everything is built on the HIRP platform, with the carbon KRE+ S as the single exception. What changes between models is the body type and the equipment rather than the construction.

The Jarama SV is the retro full-face in that range, and the lightest of them.

When something wears out

🔵 Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare part on any helmet and the least often bought. They correct a fit that has loosened with wear and solve a hot spot that would otherwise mean a different helmet entirely.
