Ducati's first motocross bike, and a first for Termignoni too

The Desmo450 MX arrived in 2025 as Ducati's entry into a class they had never contested, built around a desmodromic single with a rev ceiling well above what the segment was used to. Termignoni have built exhausts for Ducati road bikes for four decades; this is the first time the partnership has produced a motocross system, and it is the only exhaust in this catalogue designed to be washed with a pressure hose after every use.

An off-road system is a different engineering problem

A superbike exhaust is designed around a fairing and a fixed riding position. A motocross exhaust has to clear a shock that moves 300 millimetres, keep a header away from the rider's boot, survive a fall on both sides, and resist mud that dries into an insulating crust. That is why the header here is steel rather than titanium — it is the material that takes a rock and keeps its shape.

Where the power is, and why that matters on a 450

The Desmo450's selling point is how far it revs, and desmodromic valve actuation is the reason it can. An exhaust for that engine has to be tuned for the top of the range without hollowing out the bottom, because a motocross rider needs drive out of a rut as much as over-rev up a straight. Termignoni built this system against that specific brief rather than adapting a road design.

What it needs alongside

A calibration, and a maintenance habit. Motocross silencers are repackable — the absorbent material inside breaks down under sustained high revs and needs replacing rather than ignoring. Budget for wadding once or twice a season if the bike is raced, more if it is ridden in sand.
