Sie eliminiert das Hinterradstempeln und das Überdrehen des Motors, die die 899 bei harten Rückschaltvorgängen aus der Ruhe bringen können, und macht Bremszonen sicherer und konstanter – ganz ohne Änderung des Fahrstils.

Verarbeitungsqualität und Technik
STM hat die FDU-S040 um ein patentiertes Kugelrampensystem herum entwickelt, das das Rückdrehmoment beim Herunterschalten progressiv begrenzt. Anders als einfachere Nockenrampen-Konstruktionen liefert die Kugelrampen-Geometrie unabhängig von der Drehzahl einen konstanten, wiederholbaren Lösepunkt und gibt dem Fahrer so ein berechenbares Gefühl am Hebel. Die Tellerfeder ersetzt ein herkömmliches Schraubenfeder-Paket, beseitigt das Flattern der Druckplatte bei schnellen Gaswechseln und erzeugt die geschmeidige Kupplungswirkung, für die STM-Slipper-Kupplungen im gesamten Fahrerlager bekannt sind.
Die Reduzierung der rotierenden Masse – etwa 0,7 bis 0,8 kg gegenüber der Serieneinheit – ist keine reine Zahl auf dem Papier. An einem so spritzigen Motorrad wie der Panigale 899 überträgt sich die geringere Drehmasse direkt in ein schärferes Ansprechen am Gas und ein agileres Gefühl in der Kurvenmitte. Das macht die FDU-S040 ebenso zu einem echten Alltags-Upgrade wie zu einem Track-Day-Werkzeug und verbessert den Charakter der 899 bei jedem Tempo.
Einsatz auf Straße und Rennstrecke
Die STM FDU-S040 fühlt sich auf einer kurvigen Bergstraße genauso zu Hause wie im Rennpaddock. Auf der Straße nimmt die Slipper-Funktion hastigen Rückschaltvorgängen den Stress, egal ob in einer unbekannten Kurvenkombination oder im Stop-and-go-Verkehr mit häufiger Kupplungsbetätigung. Auf der Rennstrecke sorgt sie für die konstante Rückdrehmoment-Begrenzung, die es Fahrern erlaubt, die Bremsleistung der 899 voll auszunutzen, ohne ein plötzlich ausbrechendes Heck in der Einlenkphase befürchten zu müssen. Das verbesserte Kupplungseingriffsgefühl in Kurven ist besonders bemerkenswert: Die Neigung von Trockenkupplungs-Ducatis, bei teilweisem Einkuppeln zu rucken, wird deutlich reduziert, was einen glatteren, dosierteren Antritt aus langsamen Kurven ermöglicht.
