Sprint Filter führt den T12 unter Extrembedingungen, und es lohnt sich, genau zu sein, welches Extrem damit gemeint ist. Sieben Mikron ist eine Aussage über Feststoffe: Staub, Sand, die mineralischen Feinstteile, die noch Minuten in der Luft hängen, nachdem der vorausfahrende Fahrer verschwunden ist. Über Wasser sagt das gar nichts. Die Reihe führt durchaus ein wasserabweisendes Medium, den P037, und der gehört nicht zu den beiden für die Rally 300 gelisteten – eine nasse Durchquerung bleibt also das, was sie immer war: eine Frage danach, wo die Ansaugung sitzt und wie weit man sein Glück herausfordert, und kein Filterelement klärt das.

Das Extrem, für das dieses Medium konzipiert wurde
In einer Staubwolke zu fahren, ist keine Sache einer einzigen schlechten Stunde; es ist ein Vorgang, der weiterläuft, solange sich das Rad davor dreht, und an einer kleinen Rally-Maschine wird ein Großteil dieser Zeit bei niedriger Geschwindigkeit und hoher Motorlast verbracht. Genau für diesen Fall wurde der T12 gebaut, und er beantwortet ihn mit Konstruktion statt mit einem engeren Gewebe – einer Matte, die Partikel in ihre Tiefe aufnimmt, statt sie an der Oberfläche zu blockieren. Das ist das falsche Element für ein Motorrad, das sein Leben auf Asphalt verbringt, und es gibt sich auch nicht als etwas anderes aus: 560 gegen 5.050 ist der Preis für diesen Schutz, und ein 300er-Einzylinder gewinnt weder durch den PM259T12 noch durch irgendein anderes Filter, das in einen Serienkasten eingesetzt wird, an Leistung.
Das Intervall gehört zur Spezifikation dazu
Die Hälfte dessen, was Sie hier kaufen, ist das Medium; die andere Hälfte ist, wie oft Sie bereit sind, den Luftfilterkasten zu öffnen. Luft, die 7 Mikron rechtfertigt, belädt jedes Element schnell, und ein feines gibt seinen Durchfluss beim Füllen früher auf, sodass die sinnvolle Lesart ist, dass dieses Element nach harten Tagen einen Blick verdient und nicht nach einer festen Kilometerzahl. Was das erträglich macht, klingt wie ein Slogan und ist keiner: Eine Reinigung kostet Luft und Zeit und sonst nichts. Es gibt kein Teil zu bestellen und nichts übrig, sodass die vom Plan verlangte Kontrolle auch tatsächlich stattfindet.
Pflege und Reinigung
Mit Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen ausblasen, sodass die Ladung über die Fläche verlässt, über die sie eingetreten ist. Wenn Luft allein nicht mehr genügt, helfen lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Spülmittel, gefolgt von Spülen, bis das Ablaufwasser klar ist. Sie muss vollständig in bewegter Luft durchtrocknen – Wärmequellen und Flammen sind es, die diese Matten zerstören –, und sie kommt trocken und unbehandelt zurück.
