Bei einem nackten Boxer ist der Deckel des Luftfilterkastens zwanzig Minuten entfernt. Bei einer vollverkleideten RT sitzt er hinter der Verkleidung, und die ehrliche Rechnung für einen Filterservice an dieser Maschine sind nicht die fünf Minuten am Kompressor, sondern alles, was drumherum ab- und wieder angebaut werden muss. Genau diese Summe verändert diese Teilenummer. Der Katalog schreibt ihr hundert Prozent mehr Filterfläche zu als dem Standardelement für dasselbe Gehäuse, und das bedeutet Kapazität, was Intervall bedeutet, was bei einer RT in Nachmittagen gemessen wird.

Die Kosten, die nicht auf der Rechnung stehen
Ein waschbares Element streicht bereits dauerhaft eine Zeile aus der Ersatzteilliste. Was es nicht streicht, ist die Arbeit, überhaupt hinzukommen, und bei einer Tourenmaschine ist diese Arbeit mit deutlichem Abstand die größere Zahl. Die Fläche zu verdoppeln lässt die Verkleidungsteile nicht schneller ab-, sondern seltener angehen, weil das Element doppelt so viel aufnimmt, bevor es Aufmerksamkeit braucht. Praktisch bedeutet der Kauf: dieselbe Arbeit, aber terminiert um die Reisen herum, statt sie zu unterbrechen.
Warum überhaupt das strenge Medium bei einer RT
Weil schmutzige Luft eine Eigenschaft der Strecke ist, nicht des Motorrads. Eine Tourenmaschine, die Schotterpisten folgt, täglich eine Baustelle durchquert oder sich durch einen trockenen Südsommer arbeitet, trifft genau auf die Schwebe, für die das Sieben-Mikrometer-Vlies ausgelegt wurde, egal was die Verkleidung vermuten lässt. Der Preis ist der Durchfluss: 560 l/m²/sek gegenüber 5.050 beim Standardgewebe, fällig durchgehend und nicht nur am oberen Ende der Drehzahl. Das ist ein Tausch, keine Rangfolge, und es ist in keiner Richtung eine Leistungsfrage – eine Standard-R-1200-RT mit diesem Element im Luftfilterkasten ist genau so stark wie mit dem Papierelement.
Pflege und Reinigung
Ist das Gehäuse einmal offen, ist die eigentliche Arbeit kurz. Druckluft auf der Motorseite des Vlieses, nach außen geblasen, holt den Großteil dessen zurück, was eine Saison hineingebracht hat; was die Luft übrig lässt, löst sich in handwarmem Wasser mit einer Spur mildem Spülmittel, durchgespült, bis das Wasser nicht mehr trübt. Das Element trocknet dann vollständig an bewegter Luft, bevor es überhaupt in die Nähe der Maschine kommt – nie mit einem Heizgerät, einem Ofen oder einer Flamme, die Polyester endgültig zerstören –, und das K142T12 wird trocken und ungeölt wieder eingebaut.
