Jedes feine Filtermedium wird mit einem Vorbehalt zum Durchfluss verkauft, und dieser Vorbehalt ist real: 1.800 l/m²/sek ist ein kleinerer Wert als der des Standardelements. Was selten gesagt wird, ist, wann dieser Wert tatsächlich zum Tragen kommt. Ein Motor saugt seinen Spitzendurchfluss nahe seiner Höchstdrehzahl an, und Triumph hat den 1200er-Zweizylinder der Bonneville Bobber für das andere Ende des Bereichs gebaut – eine drehmomentstarke Abstimmung, die ihre Arbeit im unteren Bereich verrichtet und den Fahrer lange vor dem Punkt hochschalten lässt, an dem der Durchflusswert zu greifen beginnt. Bei dieser Maschine ist der übliche Einwand gegen ein Staubmedium fast kostenlos, was den SM225P14 zu einer ungewöhnlich einfachen Entscheidung macht. Man kann sich allein an der Filtration orientieren.

Wo der Durchflusswert zum Tragen kommt
Der Luftbedarf steigt mit der Drehzahl. Einen Widerstand, den ein hochdrehender Vierzylinder auf jeder schnellen Straße spüren würde, spürt dieser Zweizylinder nur bei Drehzahlen, für die er nicht abgestimmt wurde – und die meisten Bobber-Fahrer bringen ihn dorthin ohnehin nie, weil der Motor das Gegenteil belohnt. Der Kostenanteil eines feineren Mediums wird bei dieser Maschine also in einem Drehzahlbereich bezahlt, der kaum genutzt wird – während der Gewinn an Rückhaltung auf jedem Kilometer eingesammelt wird. Ein feineres Medium hält immer mehr zurück und lässt weniger durch – die beiden trennen sich nie, bei keinem Medium im Sortiment –, das ist also ein Kompromiss und keine Rangliste. Deshalb liest sich das hier so anders als bei einer Sportmaschine.
Was Sie tatsächlich kaufen
Keine Leistung. Ein Einsteck-Element macht eine Serien-Bonneville nicht spürbar schneller, und niemand sollte das erwarten. Was sich ändert, ist, dass der Ansaugwiderstand niedriger startet und, wichtiger noch, bei jeder Reinigung des Elements auf denselben Wert zurückkehrt, statt stetig zu steigen, bis jemand ein neues Paneel kauft. Die zweite Änderung ist, dass das Nachkaufen aufhört: Dies ist der letzte Luftfilter, den das Motorrad braucht, und er trägt zwei Jahre Garantie ab Kaufdatum.
Pflege und Reinigung
Der SM225P14 wird mit Druckluft an der sauberen Seite gewartet, nach außen geblasen, sodass der Staub denselben Weg verlässt, auf dem er eingedrungen ist. Nach einem staubigen Sommer waschen Sie es in lauwarmem Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel und spülen Sie, bis das Wasser klar bleibt. Trocknen Sie es ausschließlich an offener Luft – keine Heißluftpistole, keine Flamme – und bauen Sie es trocken wieder ein. Das Wartungsblatt finden Sie im Downloads-Tab dieser Seite.
