Das gewebte P08 ist mit 93,13 Prozent der 100-Mikron-Partikel angegeben, das F1-85 mit 95,22, beide gegenüber 76,42 bei geöltem Vierlagen-Baumwollgewebe. Für das P14 wird kein solcher Prozentwert veröffentlicht, und einen zu erfinden wäre das Leichteste, was man auf dieser Seite tun könnte. Was stattdessen existiert, ist eine Klassifizierung, 14 Mikron, und ein Durchflusswert von 1.800 l/m²/sek – und diese beiden Werte genügen, um das Medium ehrlich einzuordnen. Das PM210P14 ist das danach zugeschnittene Element für diesen Luftfilterkasten.

Was eine Klassifizierung aussagt – und was nicht
Eine Mikron-Klassifizierung beschreibt ein Medium; ein Rückhalte-Prozentwert beschreibt das Ergebnis eines einzelnen Tests, bei einer bestimmten Partikelgröße, unter selbst gewählten Bedingungen. Beide beantworten unterschiedliche Fragen, und eine Zahl ersetzt die andere nicht. Die veröffentlichten Vergleiche für die gewebten Medien wurden bei 100 Mikron durchgeführt, weit über beiden Gewebefeinheiten, weshalb beide im Neunzigerbereich lagen und der Abstand zwischen ihnen nur zwei statt zwanzig Punkte beträgt. Eine Klassifizierung von 14 Mikron für dieses Vlies sagt daher etwas Klares über die Größe des zurückgehaltenen Materials aus – und nichts über einen Prozentwert. Der Tausch, klar benannt
Feiner bedeutet mehr Rückhaltung und weniger Durchlass, und genau das zeigt sich im Durchflusswert: 1.800 l/m²/sek gegenüber 5.050 beim Gewebe im selben Gehäuse. Das ist kein Mangel, den man wegdiskutieren müsste, sondern der Tausch, der in der Spezifikation steht. Damit ist auch die zweite klare Aussage fällig. Kein einsetzbares Element macht eine Serien-1200 spürbar schneller, ein feines Medium am wenigsten von allen, da es den Weg bewusst verengt statt ihn zu erweitern. Der Grund, eines einzusetzen, ist das, was nicht an den Drosselklappen ankommt.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die Wartung ist trockene Arbeit. Eine an die saubere Seite gehaltene und nach außen geführte Luftleitung entleert das Vlies auf demselben Weg, den der Staub beim Eindringen genommen hat; die umgekehrte Richtung drückt ihn nur tiefer hinein. Ist eine Wäsche nötig, lösen handwarmes Wasser und etwas mildes Reinigungsmittel einen öligen Film, und das Spülen wird fortgesetzt, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Anschließend trocknet es an bewegter Raumluft und fernab jeder Hitzequelle, denn Hitze ist es, die das Material zerstört. Das PM210P14 wird unbehandelt wieder eingesetzt.
