Eine GB350 ist sehr oft das einzige Motorrad im Haushalt: Der Arbeitsweg, die Besorgungen, der Familienbesuch und das Wochenende fallen alle auf dieselbe Maschine. Das hat eine Konsequenz für die Wahl des Filtermediums, die leicht übersehen wird. Das Element ist eine feste Entscheidung, einmal getroffen und dann damit betraut, mit jeder Art von Luft klarzukommen, der das Motorrad zufällig begegnet – niemand tauscht am Straßenrand das Medium, wenn der Belag zu Schotter wird oder die Straße an einem gerade abgeernteten Feld entlangführt. Die vernünftige Grundlage ist deshalb nicht der Durchschnittstag, sondern die staubigste Woche des Jahres, vorausgesetzt der Motor hat Durchfluss übrig. Ein 350-cc-Einzylinder hat das, was den Sprint Filter P14 SM289P14 hier bei 14 Mikron vertretbar macht, statt der 80 Mikron des P08-Gewebes.

Durchschnittswerte verbergen die Woche, die den Schaden anrichtet
Staub kommt nicht gleichmäßig über ein Jahr verteilt an. Monate mit sauberem, feuchtem Asphalt können weniger durch ein Element schicken als ein einziger vierzehntägiger Zeitraum an einer Baustelle, auf einer trockenen Piste zu einem Campingplatz oder auf einer im Spätsommer von Feldern gesäumten Straße. Weil das Medium nicht auf den einzelnen Tag abgestimmt werden kann, muss es auf die schlimmsten Bedingungen abgestimmt werden, denen das Motorrad realistisch begegnen wird. Eine für alles genutzte Maschine trifft diese Bedingungen früher oder später, und sie trifft sie ohne Vorwarnung.
Was das kostet, und wann es die falsche Antwort ist
Das feinere Medium ist kein kostenloses Upgrade. Rückhaltung und Durchfluss bewegen sich gegeneinander: Ein engerer Weg hält mehr zurück und lässt weniger Luft pro Quadratmeter pro Sekunde durch, 1.800 gegenüber 5.050. Keine der beiden Zahlen macht einen Filter besser als den anderen – der P08 zielt auf Straßen- und Streckenluft, dieser hier auf Staub. Bei einer GB350 oder GB350S geht der Tausch gut auf, weil der Motor nie die Reserve des P08 abruft, während der Staub real ist. Wird das Motorrad hauptsächlich auf sauberen, asphaltierten Straßen in ordentlichem Tempo gefahren, ist der P08 die ausgewogenere Wahl, und diese Seite ist die falsche.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft, von der sauberen Seite, nach außen geblasen: Das ist der Service für die meisten Wochen. Für alles Stärkere lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült bis das Wasser klar abläuft, und dann an der Luft, bis das Element richtig trocken ist – Hitze und Flamme ruinieren es beide, also kommt keins davon in die Nähe. Es wird trocken wieder eingesetzt, da der SM289P14 keinen Ölschritt hat. Sprint Filters Wartungsblatt ist im Downloads-Tab.
