Ein Filter altert nicht nach dem Kilometerstand. Er altert nach dem Luftvolumen, das durch ihn geströmt ist, und diese beiden Zahlen laufen bei einem Motorrad wie der CBR500R stark auseinander. Die verkleidete 500er dieser Familie ist diejenige, die für die lange Etappe genutzt wird – Autobahnkilometer bei konstanter, anhaltender Drosselklappenöffnung, wo der Motor pro Kilometer deutlich mehr Luft ansaugt als derselbe Twin beim Zuckeln durch eine Stadt. Zwei CBR500R mit identischem Kilometerstand können sich also an völlig unterschiedlichen Punkten im Leben ihrer Elemente befinden. Der Sprint Filter P14 CM220P14 begegnet dem, indem er die Frage billig beantwortbar macht: ein trockenes Vlieselement, das bis 14 Mikron filtert, kontrolliert und durchgeblasen statt geschätzt und ersetzt.

Kilometer sind ein schlechter Näherungswert
Wartungspläne zählen Strecke, weil Strecke das Einzige ist, was eine Werkstatt vom Motorrad ablesen kann. Das ist eine vernünftige Annäherung für eine Kette und eine hoffnungslose für einen Luftfilter, bei dem ein Sommer voller langer, trockener Autobahnetappen und ein Sommer voller kurzer, feuchter Arbeitswege dieselbe Zahl auf dem Tacho, aber völlig unterschiedliche Elemente im Luftfilterkasten hinterlassen. Der Wert eines waschbaren Filters liegt hier nicht darin, dass er besser durchströmt; er liegt darin, dass die Kontrolle nichts kostet, sodass sich der Plan am tatsächlichen Zustand statt an einem gedruckten Intervall orientieren kann.
Widerstand, der bleibt, wo er begann
Anhaltende Volllastfahrt ist auch der Bereich, in dem sich ein zugesetztes Element am beständigsten bemerkbar macht, denn der Motor verlangt Stunde um Stunde einen hohen Anteil dessen, was die Ansaugung liefern kann, statt in kurzen Stößen. Ein Papierelement steigt im Widerstand, während es sich füllt, und kehrt nie zurück. Der CM220P14 wird bei jeder Reinigung in seinen Ausgangszustand zurückversetzt, sodass die Ansaugung, die der Motor im letzten Monat vor einer Wartung erhält, dieselbe ist wie im ersten. Diese Stabilität – nicht eine Leistungszahl – ist das, was ein Einsteckelement einem Serienmotorrad ehrlicherweise bietet.
Pflege und Reinigung
Nie mit Hitze, nie mit einer Flamme, nie mit Öl – das sind die einzigen Verbote. Ansonsten: Druckluft von der sauberen Seite, nach außen gearbeitet, und direkt trocken zurück in den Luftfilterkasten. Für eine gründlichere Reinigung lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel verwenden, spülen, bis das Wasser klar durchläuft, und zuerst vollständig an der Luft trocknen lassen.
