Eine CBR400R führt meist eines von zwei Leben, und beide verlangen Unterschiedliches von einem Luftfilter. Das eine ist ein Rennstreckenleben: warmer Asphalt, hohe Drehzahlen, Sessions, die enden, wenn der Sprit ausgeht. Das andere ist ein Arbeitsweg – dieselbe verkleidete 400er fährt zweimal täglich dieselbe Strecke, vorbei an Baustellen, Hofeinfahrten und was auch immer die Fahrbahnoberfläche vom Verkehr davor zermahlen wurde. Der Sprint Filter P14 CM220P14 ist eindeutig das Element für das zweite Leben. Es handelt sich um ein trockenes Vliesmedium, das bis 14 Mikron statt der 80 Mikron des Standard-P08 filtert, und diese Rückhaltung erkauft es sich mit Durchfluss.

Welches Leben das Motorrad gerade führt
Es lohnt sich, hier ehrlich zu sein, statt jedem dasselbe Teil zu verkaufen. Wird die CBR400R auf der Rennstrecke eingesetzt, zählt vor allem die Durchflusszahl, und der P08 mit 5.050 l/m²/sek – oder das P08-F1-85-Rennmedium mit 15.000 – ist der bessere Kompromiss, denn eine Rennstrecke ist vergleichsweise sauber und der Motor wird bis an seine Grenze gefordert. Pendelt das Motorrad, kehrt sich diese Priorität um. Der Motor verbringt seine Zeit weit unter der Ansaugobergrenze, und die Luft, die er ansaugt, ist die schmutzigste, die er je sehen wird. Der CM220P14 ist die Antwort auf die zweite Frage – und er gibt nicht vor, die Antwort auf die erste zu sein.
Verkleidung dran, Element raus
Zugänglichkeit ist der Grund, warum Papierelemente bei einem verkleideten Motorrad aufgeschoben werden: Nie der Filter ist die eigentliche Arbeit, sondern die Verkleidungsteile davor. Ein waschbares Element ändert nichts an den Verkleidungsteilen, verändert aber die Rechnung hinter der Entscheidung. Ist der Luftfilterkasten erst einmal offen, gibt es nichts zu bestellen und nichts, worauf man warten müsste – das Element wird durchgeblasen und noch am selben Nachmittag wieder eingesetzt, und das Intervall richtet sich danach, wie schmutzig die Luft war, statt danach, wann ein Teil zufällig eintrifft. Über die Lebensdauer des Motorrads wird der Luftfilterkasten dadurch öfter geöffnet – und genau darum geht es.
Pflege und Reinigung
Zwischen den Wartungen genügt ein Kompressor: Luft von der sauberen Seite, nach außen gerichtet, und der CM220P14 kommt trocken zurück. Nach einem harten Sommer waschen Sie ihn mit lauwarmem Wasser und einem milden Reinigungsmittel, spülen bis das Wasser klar durchläuft, und lassen ihn dann an der Luft, bis er vollständig trocken ist – Hitze und Flammen sind das Einzige, was ihn wirklich ruiniert.
