Die Wahl eines Filtermediums ist keine Frage danach, das beste auszuwählen. Es ist ein Kompromiss, und die beiden Seiten ziehen gegeneinander: Je feiner das Gewebe, desto mehr hält es zurück – und desto weniger Luft lässt es durch dieselbe Fläche. Sprint Filter veröffentlicht beide Zahlen statt nur einer, was die Wahl zu einer ehrlichen macht – der P14 filtert bis 14 Mikron und lässt 1.800 l/m²/sek durch, während der Standard-P08 bis 80 Mikron filtert und 5.050 durchlässt. Bei einer Honda CB400F ist das ein leichter Kompromiss. Ein 399-cm³-Reihentwin, der auf der Straße gefahren wird, lebt in der Mitte seines Drehzahlbereichs und verlangt nie nach dem oberen Ende irgendeiner Durchflusskurve, sodass der Spielraum, auf den der P14 verzichtet, ohnehin nicht von diesem Motor genutzt wurde.

Beide Zahlen zusammen lesen
Eine Filtrationszahl allein sagt nichts darüber aus, ob ein Element zu einem bestimmten Motorrad passt, und eine Durchflusszahl allein sagt nichts darüber aus, ob es den Motor schützt. Der P08 sitzt dort, wo sich die meiste Straßenfahrt wohlfühlt. Der P14 verschiebt die Balance bewusst in Richtung Rückhaltung und bezahlt dafür mit Durchfluss. Bei einem straßengefahrenen 400er-Twin, dessen Ansaugung nirgends an ihre Grenze kommt, lohnt sich meist die Frage, was am Filter vorbeikommt – nicht, wie viel durch ihn hindurchkommt.
Was der CM220P14 nicht verspricht
Er macht eine Serien-CB400F nicht schneller, und kein Einsteckelement kann das. Was ein sauberer, großzügig dimensionierter Filter leistet, ist, den Ansaugwiderstand niedrig zu halten – und, nützlicher noch, ihn länger niedrig zu halten. Ein Papierelement steigt im Widerstand stetig an, während es sich zusetzt, und kommt nie wieder herunter; ein waschbares wird bei jeder Wartung in seinen Ausgangszustand zurückversetzt. Der ehrliche Vorteil ist eine Ansaugung, die sich im elften Monat genauso verhält wie im ersten – und ein Teil, das gereinigt statt erneut gekauft wird.
Pflege und Reinigung
Er wird nie geölt – weder neu noch nach einer Wäsche. Die routinemäßige Pflege ist Druckluft von der sauberen Seite des CM220P14, nach außen gearbeitet. Wenn eine harte Saison es verdient hat, lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis das Wasser klar durchläuft, dann vollständig an der Luft getrocknet. Hitze und Flammen bleiben ihm fern, und er kommt trocken zurück in den Luftfilterkasten. Das Sprint-Filter-Wartungsblatt liegt im Reiter „Downloads“.
Passgenauigkeit & Kompatibilität
Gefertigt für die Honda CB400F von 2019 bis 2026. Dasselbe CM220P14-Element deckt sechs Maschinen aus der 400er- und 500er-Twin-Reihe ab, weshalb es auch lange nach dem Verschwinden einer einzelnen Variante aus dem Showroom leicht zu finden bleibt.
