Ein Luftfilter wird normalerweise um eine Vorgabe herum konstruiert, über die niemand verhandelt: Das Gehäuse ist ein festes Volumen mit einer festen Öffnung, und das Element muss in beide hineinpassen. Jedes gewöhnliche Sprint-Filter-Element für eine F3 800 akzeptiert das und arbeitet innerhalb dieser Grenzen. R135S-SBK verweigert sich dem. Dies ist ein größeres Element, als die Standardöffnung erlaubt, getragen auf einem Kohlefaserrahmen, und der Luftfilterkasten muss umgebaut und das Element neu positioniert werden, bevor es überhaupt hineinpasst.

Warum ein größeres Element einen eigenen Rahmen braucht
Der Durchfluss wird pro Quadratmeter und Sekunde angegeben, sodass die Gewebemenge im Kasten einer von zwei Hebeln ist, über die ein Element verfügt; der Abstand zwischen den Fäden ist der andere. Ein auf eine feste Kontur begrenztes Element kann nur am zweiten Hebel ansetzen. Dieses Kit setzt am ersten an, und genau deshalb passt es nicht mehr dorthin, wo das Original saß. Sobald ein Element nicht mehr von der Serienaufnahme getragen wird, wird das, was es hält, zu einem echten Bauteil statt zu einer geformten Einfassung. Kohlefaser quillt beim Waschen des Mediums nicht auf und korrodiert danach nicht, und sie behält die Dichtform, die die Baugruppe im Neuzustand hatte – nützlich bei einem Teil, das viele Male aus- und eingebaut werden soll.
Was vor der Bestellung klar gesagt werden sollte
Dies ist kein Leistungsteil. Ein Element im Inneren eines Luftfilterkastens macht eine Serien-F3 800 nicht spürbar stärker, und daran ändert auch ein größeres Element nichts. Es kostet etwa das Vierfache des Standard-Straßenelements für diese Maschine, und das erkauft Konstruktion, Gewebefläche und den Arbeitsaufwand des Einbaus. Die 800 ist von 2012 bis 2026 durchgehend gelistet, sodass das Motorrad fast neu oder deutlich über zehn Jahre alt sein kann. Ein Gehäuse umzubauen lässt sich bei einer Maschine, die auf Strecken bewegt wird, weitaus leichter rechtfertigen als bei einer, die zum Pendeln dient.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die Regeneration erfolgt mechanisch, nicht chemisch. Ein Druckluftschlauch an der sauberen Seite des R135S-SBK, nach außen ausgeblasen, bringt das Gewebe nahe an seinen ursprünglichen Zustand zurück, und meist ist das schon die gesamte Prozedur. Ein hartnäckigerer Schmutzfilm, der Luft übersteht, löst sich mit handwarmem Wasser und etwas mildem Reinigungsmittel, gespült bis das ablaufende Wasser klar ist. Danach braucht es Zeit und bewegte Luft und sonst nichts: Heißluftpistolen, Heizkörper und offene Flammen sind alle tabu, denn Hitze ist das Einzige, was Polyester nicht übersteht.
