Sprint Filter baut den P08 so, dass er so lange hält wie das Motorrad selbst, das heißt, er wird einmal gekauft und nie wieder – aber nur bei einem Besitzer, der den Luftfilterkasten auch tatsächlich öffnet. Bei einem Wegwerf-Einsatz wird der Plan von jemand anderem durchgesetzt: Er steht auf dem Serviceplan, eine Werkstatt tauscht ihn, und Vernachlässigung wird vom System abgefangen. Ein waschbares Element gibt diese Aufgabe vollständig ab.

Eine 703F, die jahrelang mit einem Element läuft, das niemand angefasst hat, ist schlechter dran als eine, die mit einem pünktlich gewechselten Papiereinsatz läuft, und daran ändert keine Spezifikation der Welt etwas. Die ehrliche Lesart dieser Listung ist daher der Tausch einer Verpflichtung gegen eine andere: Der wiederkehrende Kauf entfällt, an seine Stelle tritt ein wiederkehrender Blick. Dieser Blick ist billig – Deckel ab, Element raus, Druckluft, wieder rein – und das ist alles, was das Teil im Gegenzug dafür verlangt, nie wieder gekauft werden zu müssen.
Was es zwischen diesen Blicken leistet
Keine Magie und keine Leistung. Jedes Element, das in einen Serien-Luftfilterkasten eingesetzt wird, lässt eine Serien-703F bei dem, was sie vorher leistete; Listungen, die anderes andeuten, beschreiben einen Wunsch. Das Angebot ist ein geringerer Ansaugwiderstand, der bei jeder Wartung des Elements zu seinem Ausgangswert zurückkehrt, statt im Laufe des Intervalls still anzusteigen, wie es ein Papiereinsatz tut. Die doppelte Filterfläche ist Teil des Grunds dafür: Dieselbe angesammelte Ladung, über mehr Gewebe verteilt, liegt dünner, und eine dünnere Schicht braucht länger, um zu Widerstand zu werden.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft von der sauberen Fläche nach außen erledigt den trockenen Anteil der Ladung und deckt die meisten Services ab. Was übrig bleibt, ist klebrig – Insektenreste, Straßenfilm – und das braucht lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. In bewegter Luft bei Raumtemperatur trocknen, nie mit Heißluftpistole, Heizkörper oder Flamme, und den SM296S trocken wieder einsetzen, ohne etwas aufzusprühen.
