Die YZF-R25 und die YZF-R3 sind ein Motorrad mit zwei Bohrungsgrößen, und welche davon ein Land bekommt, entscheidet sich daran, wo dessen Führerschein- und Steuerregeln die 250er-Grenze ziehen. Das bleibt für den Besitzer unsichtbar, bis ein Ersatzteil in einem Markt gebraucht wird, in dem das Modell nie verkauft wurde, oder ein importiertes Motorrad an einer Theke landet, deren Katalog es nie geführt hat. Der Sprint Filter P08 PM44S ist gegen all das immun. Er wird über seinen eigenen Code identifiziert, nimmt in der Serien-Luftfilterbox den Platz der Papierpatrone ein, und nach dem ersten Einbau ist er kein Teil mehr, das erneut beschafft werden muss – er wird gewaschen und wieder eingebaut, solange das Motorrad im Besitz ist.

Warum der Code besser reist als der Name
Verschleißteile sind der unangenehme Teil des Besitzes einer Maschine, die das örtliche Händlernetz nicht kennt. Niemand hat eines vorrätig, das Teilesystem sucht nach einem Namen, den es nie geführt hat, und die Antwort kommt als Achselzucken zurück. Ein Element, das über seine eigene Nummer identifiziert wird, überspringt diesen ganzen Austausch, weil die Nummer den Luftfilterkasten beschreibt und nicht das Emblem: Dieses hier deckt die R25, die R3 und zwei weitere Maschinen ab, die um dasselbe Gehäuse herum gebaut sind. Und da es gereinigt statt ersetzt wird, ist die Versorgungsfrage einmal beantwortet statt bei jedem Intervall neu.
Trockenes Gewebe, und der Preis eines feineren
Der P08 wird sein ganzes Leben lang trocken verwendet, sodass nichts stromabwärts zu den Sensoren gelangen kann, die den Kraftstoff messen. Wo die Bedingungen es rechtfertigen, gibt es feinere Gewebe: den wasserabweisenden P037 mit 37 Mikrometern und 4.500 Litern pro Quadratmeter und Sekunde, den P14 mit 14 Mikrometern und 1.800. Jede engere Stufe hält mehr zurück und lässt weniger durch – ein Kompromiss, keine Stufenleiter –, und für eine straßentaugliche 250er ist das P08-Ende davon die vernünftige Wahl. Auch keiner von ihnen ist ein Leistungsbauteil: Bei einer Serien-R25 liegt der ehrliche Nutzen in einem niedrigen, gleichbleibenden Ansaugwiderstand, nicht in einer größeren Zahl.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen erledigt die meisten Services in ein paar Minuten. Reicht das nicht, hilft lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis das Wasser klar bleibt; Wasser gehört hier zum Konzept, statt es zu gefährden. Das Trocknen geschieht an der frischen Luft und muss vollständig sein – keine Hitze, keine Flamme –, und der PM44S wird trocken wieder eingebaut. An keiner Stelle gibt es einen Ölschritt.
