Die XSR 900 GP und die XSR 900 GT teilen sich einen Namen, eine Plattform und eine Teilenummer – und fast nichts, was ihre Fahrweise betrifft. Die eine ist eine halbverkleidete Maschine im Stil eines historischen Rennmotorrads und wird entsprechend bewegt, in kurzen, bewussten Ausfahrten. Die andere trägt eine Scheibe und Gepäck und wird gekauft, um Strecke zu machen. Sprint Filter listet für beide ein einziges Element, den P08 SM272S, weil der dahinterliegende Luftfilterkasten bei beiden derselbe ist. Was nicht dasselbe ist, ist die Luftmenge, die jede von ihnen in einer Saison durch ihn zieht, und das – nicht das Emblem auf dem Tank – entscheidet, wann das Element Aufmerksamkeit braucht.
Wichtige Merkmale

- Im Serien-Luftfilterkasten übernimmt er den Platz des Originals: nichts modifiziert, nichts umprogrammiert, Zulassung unangetastet
- Waschbar und wiederverwendbar, ausgelegt für die gesamte Nutzungsdauer des Motorrads; zwei Jahre Garantie ab Kauf
Eine Teilenummer, zwei verschiedene Intervalle
Das im Handbuch abgedruckte Intervall ist für eine durchschnittliche Maschine geschrieben, und keine der beiden ist dieser Durchschnitt. Eine GP, die ein paar Tausend behutsame Kilometer im Jahr auf sauberen Straßen zurücklegt, erreicht den Kilometerwert lange nach dem Kalender. Eine GT, die einen Sommer auf Autobahnen und Passstraßen verbringt, erreicht ihn deutlich davor. Bei einem Wegwerfelement wird der Plan in beide Richtungen blind befolgt, was bedeutet, im einen Fall zu früh und im anderen zu spät zu zahlen. Beim SM272S wandert die Entscheidung zurück zum Element: herausnehmen, ansehen, bei Bedarf reinigen, wieder einbauen. Diese Antwort kostet nichts, sodass man sie so oft stellen kann, wie es die Fahrweise verlangt.
Eine ehrliche Bilanz des Unterschieds
Ein Einsteckfilter macht keine der beiden Versionen spürbar schneller; Luftfilterkasten, Ansaugtrakt und Kraftstoffkennfeld bleiben unverändert, was der Sinn eines Bauteils für das Seriengehäuse ist. Was sich ändert, ist, dass der Ansaugwiderstand aufhört, ein sich bewegendes Ziel zu sein. Eine zusetzende Papierpatrone gibt jeden Monat ein bisschen mehr auf, ohne es je anzuzeigen. Ein trockenes Polyester-Element wird bei jeder Reinigung in seinen Ausgangszustand zurückversetzt, sodass der Motor im fünften Jahr genauso atmet wie im ersten – ohne dass dafür ein Verschleißteil beschafft werden muss.
Pflege und Reinigung
Nie mit Hitze trocknen und nie in der Nähe einer Flamme; diese Anweisung kennt keine Ausnahme. Ansonsten: Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen, lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, wenn mehr gebraucht wird, gespült, bis das Wasser klar bleibt, dann frische Luft, bis er ganz durchgetrocknet ist.
