Kaum ein Motorrad sammelt so zuverlässig Zubehörteile wie diese Speed-Triple-Generation. Auspuffanlagen, Mapping, Hebel, Scheiben, Rastenanlagen – und jede Menge Streit darüber, in welcher Reihenfolge sie montiert gehören. Das Element in der Airbox gehört zu keinem davon. Der Kauf eines PM123S ist kein Schritt in einer Tuning-Abfolge und hängt nicht davon ab, wo man in einer solchen gerade steht, denn er verändert, wie die Ansaugung gewartet wird, nicht, wie der Motor abgestimmt ist – und das gilt unabhängig davon, ob das Motorrad serienmäßig ist oder eine komplette Anlage trägt.

Zwei Entscheidungen, die sich nie berühren
Tuning-Arbeiten ändern, was der Motor verlangt. Ein Filter kann nur den Widerstand verringern, den er selbst hinzufügt; er liefert keine Luft und kann nicht mehr zurückgeben, als er nimmt. Deshalb macht ein Steckfilter einen serienmäßigen 1050er-Dreizylinder nicht spürbar stärker, mit oder ohne Auspuffanlage, und deshalb sollte niemand einen bestellen, der einen Unterschied auf der Straße spüren möchte. Was er bewirkt, ist, aus einem Verschleißteil ein Wartungsteil zu machen. Gereinigt kehrt sein Widerstand zu dem Wert zurück, mit dem er begann, statt stetig bis zu dem Tag zu steigen, an dem der nächste Papier-Flachfilter fällig wird.
Warum die Abstimmung unberührt bleibt
Die Airbox, ihr Einlass, ihr Volumen und die dahinterliegenden Drosselklappen bleiben allesamt unangetastet. Das Element sitzt in derselben Öffnung mit derselben Grundfläche und derselben Dichtung, sodass die Ansaugung, auf die das Motormanagement abgestimmt wurde, dieselbe bleibt. Keine Neuabstimmung, keine Arbeiten an der Gemischaufbereitung, keine Frage zur Zulassung. Das ist bei einer Maschine, die oft irgendwann eine komplette Anlage bekommen hat, klar auszusprechen: Dies ist die eine Ansaug-Entscheidung, die sich von jeder anderen abhebt, und sie lässt sich treffen oder rückgängig machen, ohne sonst etwas am Motorrad zu berühren.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die Wartung besteht aus Druckluft und ein paar Minuten mit angehobenem Tank: von der sauberen Seite nach außen blasen, sodass der Staub denselben Weg verlässt, auf dem er hereinkam. Wo sich Straßenfilm angesammelt hat, lösen lauwarmes Wasser und ein mildes Reinigungsmittel dies; spülen, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Getrocknet wird an der frischen Luft, ohne Heizquelle und ohne Flamme, und das Element wird trocken wieder eingesetzt. Öl spielt dabei keine Rolle. Das Wartungsblatt finden Sie im Downloads-Tab.
Fitment & Kompatibilität
Gefertigt für die Triumph Speed Triple 1050 von 2011 bis 2015. Ein weiterer Eintrag teilt sich dieses Element, die Speed Triple 1050 R, gebaut ab 2012, sodass das Teil beide Versionen dieser Generation abdeckt. Spätere Speed Triples verwenden andere Elemente, prüfen Sie daher Ihr Baujahr im Fitment-Tab.
