Eine 790 Duke führt meist zwei Kalender. Der eine zählt die zwischen Frühling und Herbst gefahrenen Kilometer. Der andere zählt die Wochen, in denen das Motorrad in einer unbeheizten Garage mit Erhaltungsladegerät an der Batterie steht, und nur der erste davon taucht je in einem Wartungsplan auf. Der Luftfilterkasten erlebt beide. Stehende Luft führt Feuchtigkeit mit sich, und Feuchtigkeit ist das eine, wovon sich ein Zellstoffpanel nie wieder befreien lässt. PM283S setzt stattdessen trockenes Gewebe-Polyester in das Standardgehäuse ein, ein Material, das gewaschen, getrocknet und wieder eingebaut werden soll.

Vier Monate Stillstand
Zellstoff nimmt Wasser aus der umgebenden Luft auf und quillt dabei auf, und das gibt er beim nächsten Ausfahren nicht wieder zurück: Die Fasern bleiben verformt, und das Panel, das im Frühling herauskommt, ist nicht mehr das Panel, das eingebaut wurde. Niemand bemerkt das, denn ein Filter meldet sich nie von selbst – die Motorsteuerung trimmt das Gemisch einfach um den vorgefundenen Widerstand herum. Ein trockenes Gewebe kennt kein vergleichbares Versagen: Es wird feucht, es trocknet aus, und nach einem nassen Winter lässt es sich gezielt waschen und in einen bekannten Zustand zurückversetzen. Bei einer Maschine, die ein Drittel des Jahres stillsteht, ist das der Unterschied zwischen einem Ansaugtrakt, der mit den Jahreszeiten altert, und einem, der das nicht tut.
Was sich ändert und was nicht
Er macht eine Serien-790-Duke nicht spürbar schneller. Das kann kein Einsteck-Element: Drosselklappen, Nockenwellenprofile, Katalysator und Abstimmung setzen jeweils ihre eigene Obergrenze, und keine davon verschiebt sich, nur weil das Panel unter dem Tank aus einem anderen Material besteht. Was sich ändert, ist die Widerstandskurve zwischen den Wartungen. Ein Papierpanel ist an dem Tag, an dem es eingebaut wird, am besten und steigt von dort an, bis jemand das nächste kauft. Ein waschbares Gewebe wird mit Druckluft nahe an seinen Ausgangswert zurückgebracht, so oft es das Jahr erfordert – ein niedrigerer und, nützlicher noch, ein gleichmäßigerer Widerstand.
Pflege und Reinigung
Zunächst Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen durch das Element leiten. Sobald Luft allein nicht mehr löst, was im Gewebe sitzt, hilft warmes Wasser mit einem milden Spülmittel, und das Element wird ausgespült, bis nichts mehr abgeht. Danach nur in bewegter Luft trocknen lassen – nie mit einer Heißluftpistole, nie mit einer Flamme – und trocken wieder einbauen. Es gibt an keiner Stelle einen Ölschritt, sodass nichts stromabwärts auf einen Sensor wandern kann. Sprint Filters Wartungsblatt für den PM283S liegt im Downloads-Tab bereit.
Passform & Kompatibilität
Für die zwischen 2022 und 2026 gebaute KTM 790 Duke. Drei Maschinen teilen sich dieses Element: die 790 Duke und die beiden Husqvarna-801-Modelle mit demselben Luftfilterkasten, und der Fitment-Tab führt sie vollständig auf. Eine 790 Duke aus der früheren Baureihe 2018–2020 nimmt einen anderen Sprint-Filter-Code, prüfen Sie also das Baujahr statt des Modellnamens.
