Jeder andere Punkt auf einem Wartungsplan kommt wieder. Reifen, Bremsbeläge, Öl und Zündkerzen werden allesamt zyklisch nachgekauft, und der Wartungsplan ist im Grunde eine Liste künftiger Käufe mit Terminen. Ein Punkt lässt sich davon abkoppeln. Sprint Filter legt das PM237S für die gesamte Lebensdauer des Motorrads aus: Es wird gewaschen und wieder eingesetzt statt weggeworfen, sodass der Luftfilter nach dem ersten Kauf als Aufgabe auf dem Plan bleibt, aber als Artikel von ihm verschwindet.

Was der Kategoriewechsel im Gegenzug verlangt
Ein Teil, das für die Lebensdauer der Maschine ausgelegt ist, ist kein Teil, das sich um sich selbst kümmert. Es muss bei der Wartung heraus, durchgeblasen werden und wieder hinein, und die eine Anweisung in dieser Routine, bei der es keine Toleranz gibt, ist das Trocknen. Polyester wird durch Hitze zerstört, lange bevor sich äußerlich etwas zeigt, sodass ein Heißluftgebläse zwar zwanzig Minuten spart, aber das Element kostet. Richtig behandelt, geht dasselbe Element auch nach zehn Jahren noch in den Luftfilterkasten und leistet dort dasselbe wie bei der ersten Fahrt, mit zwei Jahren Garantie ab Kauf und danach nur noch Zeit als Faktor.
Der Nutzen, klar benannt
Nicht Leistung. Ein Element, das in einen unveränderten Luftfilterkasten eingesetzt wird, macht eine Serien-Challenger nicht spürbar stärker, und eine Beschreibung, die etwas anderes andeutet, hat das Thema gewechselt. Real ist der veränderte Verlauf im Arbeitsleben eines Bauteils: ein Ansaugwiderstand, der niedrig beginnt und bei jeder Reinigung wieder auf diesen Wert zurückgesetzt wird, statt sich nur in eine Richtung zu bewegen, bis jemand ein Ersatzteil kauft. Die nahezu doppelte Filterfläche eines herkömmlichen Elements bedeutet zudem, dass eine gegebene Beladung dünner über das Gewebe verteilt liegt.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die routinemäßige Arbeit am PM237S ist Druckluftarbeit: Halten Sie die Düse an die saubere Seite und treiben Sie die Beladung durch dieselbe Seite wieder hinaus, durch die sie eingedrungen ist. Wo ein langer Sommer einen Film hinterlassen hat, den Luft nicht löst, hilft handwarmes Wasser mit etwas mildem Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis der Ablauf klar ist. Danach niemals ein Heißluftgebläse, ein Heizkörper oder eine Flamme – nur bewegte Luft bei Raumtemperatur und die dafür nötige Zeit. Das Element wird trocken und unbehandelt wieder eingesetzt, das Wartungsblatt liegt unter Downloads.
