Die NM4 Vultus versteckt ihre Technik vollständiger als fast alles andere, was Honda je verkauft hat. Die Verkleidung verläuft von der Front bis zum Heck als eine durchgehende Fläche, und der 745-cm³-Twin darunter sitzt eingeschlossen statt im Fahrtwind. Diese Kapselung verändert das thermische Bild: weniger Luftbewegung über dem Motor bei niedrigem Tempo und mehr gestaute Wärme im umgebenden Raum. Filtermedien reagieren darauf unterschiedlich, und der Sprint Filter P08 PM181S reagiert, indem er gar nicht reagiert – ein trockenes Polyestergewebe hat keinen Ölfilm, der sich verflüssigen, wandern oder irgendwohin transportiert werden könnte, wenn die Airbox warm wird.
Wichtige Merkmale

- Kein Film wandert zu den Sensoren oder Drosselklappen, es gibt also nichts, was stromabwärts kontaminiert werden könnte
- Rund doppelt so große Filterfläche wie bei anderen Hochleistungselementen
- Gewebt aus Polyesterfaden ab ø 22 Mikron auf kalibrierter Porenweite, statt aus Zellstoff gepresst
- Wird als direkter Ersatz eingebaut – keine Modifikation, kein neues Mapping
- Die Garantie beträgt zwei Jahre, gerechnet ab Kaufdatum
Warum ein geölter Filter unter der Verkleidung die falsche Antwort ist
Elemente aus Baumwollgewebe halten Staub in einem klebrigen Film fest, und dieser Film ist bewusst temperaturempfindlich konstruiert. Bei einem offenen Motorrad sind die Folgen meist gering. In einem vollständig geschlossenen Motorraum, in dem sich Hitze staut statt wegzuwehen, ist dasselbe Verhalten weniger willkommen – zu starkes Ölen ist dafür bekannt, Ablagerungen genau dort zu hinterlassen, wo sie nicht hingehören. Ein trockenes Element beseitigt diesen Mechanismus vollständig. Es gibt nichts aufzutragen, nichts zu überdosieren und nichts, das irgendwohin gelangen könnte, wo es nicht hingehört.
Drei Modelljahre und die Teile, die sie überdauern
Die Vultus wurde nur kurze Zeit und in kleiner Stückzahl gebaut, was ein wesentlicher Grund dafür ist, dass die verbliebenen Exemplare gut gepflegt werden. Kurze Produktionsserien setzen Verschleißteilen jedoch zu: Händler führen auf Lager, was sich verkauft, und was sich in drei Jahren verkaufte, bleibt kein Jahrzehnt lang im Regal. Der PM181S umgeht das, weil er kein reines Verschleißprodukt für ein Nischenmodell ist und weil er kein NM4-spezifisches Teil ist – er ist das Element für die gesamte NC-Paralleltwin-Plattform, wobei die Nachfrage von fünf Modellen eine einzige Teilenummer am Leben hält. Sprint Filter legt den P08 auf die Lebensdauer des Motorrads aus, sodass sich die Beschaffungsfrage für die meisten Besitzer nur einmal stellt.
Pflege und Reinigung
Verkleidung ab, Element raus, Kompressor an: Luft von der sauberen Seite nach außen gearbeitet, und es kann trocken direkt wieder eingebaut werden. Eine gründlichere Reinigung ist lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel und ein Spülgang, bis das Wasser klar abläuft, gefolgt von freier Luft, bis es durch und durch trocken ist – nie Hitze, nie eine Flamme.
