Zwei Sprint-Filter-Panels für eine Honda 125er können nebeneinander liegen und wie nahe Verwandte wirken. Austauschbar sind sie nicht. Die MSX125 trägt seit ihrer Einführung denselben Namen, doch die ab 2021 gebaute Maschine benötigt ein eigenes Element, den SM224S, und nichts im Namen kündigt das an. Honda überarbeitete den Motor in diesem Jahr und ergänzte einen fünften Gang; der Luftfilterkasten erhielt im selben Arbeitsgang eine neue Form, und ein Filter wird für eine Form zugeschnitten.

- Waschbar, wiederverwendbar und dafür gedacht, beim Motorrad zu bleiben, statt von ihm verbraucht zu werden
Der Name blieb, die Teilenummer nicht
Sprint Filter nummeriert seine Elemente nach Luftfilterkästen. Ein Modellname ist eine Entscheidung über Kontinuität; ein Luftfilterkasten ist ein physisches Volumen mit einer Dichtfläche und einer festen Öffnung, und genau das muss ein Element erfüllen. Als Honda diese 125er für 2021 überarbeitete – neue Motorinnereien, fünf Übersetzungen statt vier zuvor –, wurde auch der Kasten, der sie versorgt, überarbeitet, und das ältere Element hörte auf, die richtige Antwort zu sein. Daher ein zweiter Eintrag unter unverändertem Namen. Die hier genannten Jahre, 2021 bis 2026, leisten in dieser Beschreibung die eigentliche Arbeit; ist die MSX125 in der Garage älter, ist der benachbarte Eintrag der richtige.
Eine Frage, die man einmal klärt
Papierpanels bringen dieses Problem regelmäßig zurück. Jeder Service ist eine neue Bestellung, eine neue Gelegenheit, für die falsche Generation zu kaufen, und bei einem Namen, der inzwischen über ein Jahrzehnt überspannt, ist diese Gelegenheit nicht klein. Ein für die Lebensdauer der Maschine gebautes Element macht aus der Suche ein einmaliges Ereignis: einmal identifizieren, und von da an ist das Teil am Motorrad das Teil, das gewartet wird. Bei einem kleinen Motorrad ist das genauso viel wert wie das technische Argument. Das technische Argument ist ein niedrigerer und vor allem konstanterer Widerstand im Ansaugtrakt zwischen den Services – keine zusätzliche Leistung, die kein Einsatzelement auf einer serienmäßigen Straßen-125er ehrlich versprechen kann.
Pflege und Reinigung
Alles davon geschieht trocken und von Hand. Zuerst Druckluft, angesetzt an der sauberen Seite, damit der Schmutz zurück aus dem Gewebe wandert statt tiefer hinein. Warmes Wasser mit etwas mildem Reinigungsmittel kümmert sich um stärkere Ablagerungen; spülen, bis nichts mehr herauswäscht. Getrocknet wird ausschließlich an offener Luft, denn Heißluft und Flamme ruinieren beide das Medium, und der SM224S kehrt erst dann in den Luftfilterkasten zurück, wenn er ganz durchgetrocknet ist. Passgenauigkeit & Kompatibilität
