Die CMX1100 teilt sich ihren Reihenzweizylinder mit einem der Adventure-Modelle von Honda, und das ist der falsche Ausgangspunkt bei der Bestellung eines Luftfilters. Der Katalog führt für diese Maschine ein Element und für die CRF1100L zwei, weil das Adventure-Modell ein Paar Airboxen trägt und die Rebel nicht. Gleiche Motorenfamilie, andere Ansaug-Hardware, andere Bestellung. Eine Filterreferenz folgt dem Gehäuse, das sie füllt, nicht dem Zylinderkopf darüber: Das Datenblatt eines Motors sagt nichts über den Kasten aus, durch den die Luft ankommt. Der PM235S ist das Standardgewebe für diese Maschine.

Ein Motor, zwei Ansaugkonzepte
Hersteller verwenden Motoren weit bereitwilliger wieder als Verkleidungsteile, und die Airbox gehört auf die Seite der Verkleidungsteile dieser Trennlinie. Ihre Position, ihr Volumen und der Punkt, aus dem sie Luft zieht, werden von Rahmen, Tank und Sitzhöhe des jeweiligen Modells bestimmt, sodass zwei um denselben Zweizylinder herum gebaute Maschinen bei ganz unterschiedlichen Ansauganordnungen landen können. Für einen Besitzer ist die Konsequenz einfach: Bestellen Sie nach Modell und Baujahr, die im Eintrag stehen, niemals nach dem Motor.
Was ein Standardgewebe auf einem Cruiser bewirkt
Nichts davon macht eine serienmäßige CMX1100 stärker, und diese Behauptung wird auch nicht aufgestellt. Ein Cruiser ist schwerer, als seine Leistung vermuten lässt, und entsprechend übersetzt, was bedeutet, dass weit geöffnete Drosselklappen hier der Normalfall statt die Ausnahme sind – Anfahren im Verkehr, Überholen mit Beifahrer und Gepäck. Der Ansaugwiderstand ist bei einem solchen Motorrad kein gelegentlicher Posten, sondern ein regelmäßiger, weshalb sich ein Widerstand lohnt, der stabil bleibt. Zellulose beginnt bei ihrem niedrigsten Widerstand und steigt von dort an, bis sie entsorgt wird; ein gewaschenes Gewebe kehrt zu seiner eigenen Ausgangslage zurück. Sprint Filter misst für sein Gewebe eine Rückhaltung von 93,13 % bei 100-Mikron-Partikeln gegenüber 76,42 % für vierlagige geölte Baumwolle – und das ohne Öl, das einen Sensor erreichen könnte.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft an der sauberen Seite, nach außen geblasen, erledigt die meisten Wartungen von allein: Die Ladung verlässt durch dieselbe Fläche, die sie aufgenommen hat. Wird mehr gewünscht, waschen Sie den PM235S in warmem Wasser mit einem milden Spülmittel und spülen ihn, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Keine Wärme in irgendeinem Schritt – kein Föhn, kein Auspuff, keine Flamme – und er kommt trocken und unbehandelt zurück in die Airbox.
