Bevor der Unterschied zwischen diesen beiden Medien eine Diskussion wert ist, gibt es eine größere Variable im selben Kasten, und die kostet nichts. Luft nimmt immer den leichtesten Weg, den sie findet. Ein Element, das nicht sauber in seinem Rahmen sitzt, oder ein Deckel, der auf einer eingeklemmten Kante schließt, hinterlässt eine Route ganz ohne Gewebe – und diese Route schlägt jede Spezifikation im Katalog. Bei einer 500-cm³-Voge Valico DSX des Baujahrs 2021 entscheidet sich die tatsächliche Filterwirkung in dem Moment, in dem der Luftfilterkasten geschlossen wird, nicht in dem Moment, in dem das Teil ausgewählt wird.

Die Lücke, die kein Medium schließen kann
Ein Filterwert beschreibt, was mit Luft geschieht, die durch das Gewebe strömt. Luft, die daran vorbeiströmt, wird zu keinem Prozentsatz gefiltert. Ein solcher Bypass taucht in keiner Spezifikation auf, verändert nichts Hörbares und hinterlässt am Element keine Spuren – das Element sieht beim Ausbau ordentlich benutzt aus, weil der Großteil der Luft tatsächlich hindurchströmte. Bei einem waschbaren Element wiegt das schwerer als bei einem Wegwerfelement, aus einem einfachen Grund: Dieses wird über die Jahre viele Male aus- und wieder eingebaut, und jedes Mal besteht die Gelegenheit, es schlecht zu setzen.
Erst dann kommt das Medium ins Spiel
Stimmt die Dichtung, wird die Wahl zwischen den Medien zur eigentlichen Entscheidung, und das ist ein Kompromiss, keine Rangfolge. Dieses Element ist aus Polyesterfäden ab 22 µm Durchmesser gewebt und lässt spezifizierte 15.000 l/m²/sek durch; das Standard-CM251S ist mit 80 µm bei 5.050 spezifiziert; das für die Valico-Reihe gelistete CM251T12 geht auf 7 µm bei 560. Die 85 im Namen dieses Elements ist keine Porengröße, und das Racing-Gewebe misst 95,22 Prozent Rückhaltevermögen bei 100 Mikron gegenüber 93,13 – vor dem Standardgewebe bei der einzigen Partikelgröße, die der Hersteller dafür angibt. Für eine straßenzugelassene DSX ist das Standardgewebe preislich das angemessene Teil, und kein Element der Baureihe macht eine Standard-Valico DSX spürbar stärker.
Pflege und Reinigung
Bei der Reinigung entscheidet sich, ob ein waschbares Element seinen Zweck erfüllt. Blasen Sie den CM251S F1-85 von der sauberen Seite nach außen durch, waschen Sie ihn mit lauwarmem Wasser und einem milden Reinigungsmittel, wenn Luft allein einen Film zurücklässt, und spülen Sie, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Vollständig in bewegter Luft trocknen – niemals mit Heißluftgebläse, Ofen oder offener Flamme – und dann erst, wenn es vollkommen trocken ist, sauber in seinem Rahmen sitzen lassen.
