Bei diesem Element muss nichts eine endgültige Entscheidung sein. Der Luftfilterkasten der GSX-8TT ist dasselbe Gehäuse, das auch der Rest der Familie nutzt, und der Zugang dazu bedeutet eine Sitzbank und ein paar Schrauben — sodass sich die Wahl des Mediums von Wochenende zu Wochenende treffen lässt, statt nur einmal an der Ladentheke. Als zweites Element neben dem Standard-P08 gekauft, statt als dessen Ersatz, wird der Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 schlicht zum Trackday-Teil: 15.000 Liter pro Quadratmeter und Sekunde durch sein patentiertes Gewebe für die Rennstrecke, und das 80-Mikron-P08 mit seinen 5.050 zurück im Gehäuse für den Montagmorgen. Das Racing-Element bekommt dann ausschließlich die Art von Einsatz zu sehen, für die es ausgewählt wurde.

Zwei Elemente, ein Gehäuse
Zwei Elemente parallel zu betreiben ist einfacher, als es klingt. Markieren Sie beide, damit sie nicht verwechselt werden, und machen Sie den Wechsel vor und nach einer Veranstaltung zur Routine. Jedes Mal, wenn eines herauskommt, gegen das Licht halten und das Gewebe ansehen; jedes Mal, wenn eines eingesetzt wird, prüfen, ob es rundum sauber aufliegt, denn ein schlecht sitzendes Element lässt Luft an der Dichtung vorbei, und kein Medium kann das filtern. Das Ersatzelement flach und trocken in einer geschlossenen Box aufbewahren. Diese Lösung hält zudem jedes Element dort, wo es sinnvoll ist: Das P08 trägt die Straßensaison, und das F1-85 wartet sauber auf eine Handvoll Trackdays.
Welches Element für welche Luft
Das Sortiment ist eine Reihe von Kompromissen, keine Rangfolge, denn jedes Mikron mehr Enge kostet Durchfluss. Dieses hier ist das Racing-Medium: 15.000 l/m²/sek und trotz seines Namens nicht gröber als das P08. Das P08 liegt bei 80 Mikron und 5.050 als Standardwahl für Straße und Rennstrecke. Das P037 filtert bis 37 Mikron bei 4.500 und ist wasserabweisend. Das P14 geht auf 14 Mikron und 1.800 für Staub, das T12 auf 7 Mikron und 560 für extremes Gelände. Kommt nur ein Element in die 8TT und wird das Motorrad überwiegend auf der Straße gefahren, sollte es das P08 sein — das F1-85 ist die Ergänzung, und die rechnet sich an den Tagen, an denen vom Motor alles verlangt wird.
Pflege und Reinigung
Beide Elemente erhalten dieselbe Behandlung, und das SM245S F1-85 macht da keine Ausnahme: Druckluft an der sauberen Seite ansetzen und den Schmutz auf demselben Weg zurückdrücken, auf dem er eingedrungen ist. Eine Wäsche in lauwarmem Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel erledigt, was Luft übrig lässt, gespült, bis das Wasser klar durchläuft. Gründlich in bewegter Luft trocknen, nie mit Hitze und nie über einer Flamme, und trocken wieder einsetzen. Öl kommt zu keinem Zeitpunkt zum Einsatz.
