Vier Ausführungen teilen sich diesen Luftfilterkasten, und der Abstand zwischen den Enden dieser Bandbreite wird leicht unterschätzt. Die extreme Ausführung ist mit 560 l/m²/sek spezifiziert; diese hier, das Renn-Gewebe, mit 15.000 – knapp das Siebenundzwanzigfache durch dieselbe Öffnungsgröße. Nichts an einer so weiten Spanne liest sich wie eine Leiter mit einer besten Sprosse ganz oben. Es liest sich wie eine Spannweite mit zwei entgegengesetzten Aufgaben an ihren Enden, wobei das gewöhnliche Straßenelement näher zur Mitte sitzt. Das CM274S F1-85 ist ein Ende dieser Spannweite, und es zu wählen ist eine Entscheidung über den Einsatzzweck, nicht über den Rang.

Eine Spannweite, keine Leiter
Filtersortimente werden meist als Steigerung dargestellt, weshalb Käufer zur Spitze der Liste greifen und erwarten, dass sie das Beste der vier Ausführungen ist. Hier verweigert sich die Rechnung dieser Lesart. Geht man vom Standardgewebe in die eine Richtung, erhält man mehr Rückhaltung und weniger Durchfluss; geht man in die andere Richtung, zu diesem Element, erhält man mehr Durchfluss und einen Wartungsrhythmus wie im Rennsport. Beide Richtungen kosten etwas, und keine ist eine verbesserte Version der Mitte. Entscheidend ist die Aufgabe, die die Maschine an den Tagen erfüllen muss, die zählen – und für die meisten Guerrillas zeigt die Antwort auf die Mitte der Spannweite.
Für welchen Einsatzzweck diese Ausführung gedacht ist
Der Durchflusswert ist eine Rate pro Quadratmeter sauberem Gewebe, und er wird nur dort abgerufen, wo ein Motor über lange, wiederholte Abschnitte nahe Vollgas gehalten wird und die Ansaugung der begrenzende Faktor ist. Das beschreibt eher den Rennstreckeneinsatz als irgendeine Straße, und das sollte vor der Bestellung klar gesagt werden, nicht danach. Was keine Version dieses Elements tut: eine Serienmaschine spürbar stärker machen – nichts, was in einen unveränderten Luftfilterkasten eingesetzt wird, tut das. Auf einem Straßenmotorrad ist der sichtbare Effekt des Renn-Gewebes ein längerer Abstand zwischen den Wartungsterminen am Luftfilterkasten, da ein Gewebe mit so viel Durchflussreserve länger braucht, bis es spürbar bremst.
Pflege und Reinigung
Luft auf der sauberen Seite, nach außen gerichtet, ist die Routine für das CM274S F1-85 wie für jedes Element im Sortiment. Fettige Ablagerungen lösen sich mit lauwarmem Wasser und einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült bis das Wasser klar bleibt. Beim Trocknen entscheidet sich, ob der spezifizierte Durchfluss erhalten bleibt: Luft bei Raumtemperatur, nach Möglichkeit bewegt, so lange wie nötig, und niemals eine Heißluftpistole, ein Ofen oder eine Flamme.
