Das Naheliegende, was man über ein Rennsportgewebe auf einem vollausgestatteten Tourer sagen würde, ist, dass es das falsche Motorrad erwischt hat, und das Naheliegende trifft fast zu. Interessant ist, wo es daneben liegt. Anhaltend weit geöffnete Drosselklappe bei hoher Drehzahl ist ein Rennstreckenzustand; das Nächste, was eine öffentliche Straße dem je bietet, ist eine schwer beladene Maschine, die sich an einem heißen Nachmittag im niedrigen Gang minutenlang einen langen Bergpass hochquält. Von den drei für dieses Element gelisteten Motorrädern ist die RT diejenige, die das tatsächlich tut.

Das Nächste, was eine Straße bietet
Ein Alpenpass mit Sozius, Gepäck und Topcase ist keine Session auf der Rennstrecke, aber er ist die einzige Alltagssituation, in der ein großer Reiseboxer minutenlang statt sekundenlang nahe an seiner Drehzahlgrenze gehalten wird. Genau für diese Art von Bedarf wurde der Wert 15.000 l/m²/sek geschrieben, und ein Tourer trifft ihn deutlich öfter als ein Roadster. Der Satz sollte allerdings zu Ende gedacht werden: Selbst dort oben gibt es keinen Hinweis darauf, dass das Standardelement an seine Grenze käme. 5.050 l/m²/sek Nenndurchsatz sind eine sehr große Zahl für einen Zweizylinder dieser Größe bei den Drehzahlen, die er dreht, und auf einem Pass sind es Hitze, Übersetzung, Masse und die Geduld des Fahrers, die zuerst an ihre Grenzen stoßen.
Was hier wirklich gekauft wird
Eine Kapazität, und nur das. Das Element kostet knapp das Dreifache des Standardgewebes für diesen Luftfilterkasten, während alles andere in der Spezifikation identisch bleibt: trockenes Polyester ohne Öl, eine Passform ohne Zuschneiden und ohne neue Abstimmung, ein Luftschlauch statt eines jährlichen Neukaufs, eine ausgelegte Lebensdauer, die der des Motorrads entspricht, zwei Jahre Garantie. Keines von beiden ist ein Leistungsteil. Ein Element in einem unveränderten Luftfilterkasten macht eine Standard-R-1250-RT nicht spürbar stärker, und der höhere Preis für ein durchlässigeres Gewebe ändert daran nichts.
Pflege und Reinigung
Element ausbauen, den Kompressorschlauch an der zum Motor gerichteten Seite ansetzen und nach außen führen, bis das Gewebe sauber ist; das ist die gesamte gewöhnliche Wartung. Lange Sommer hinterlassen einen Film, den Luft nicht mehr entfernt, dann helfen handwarmes Wasser mit mildem Reinigungsmittel und Spülen, bis das Wasser sauber ist. Getrocknet wird ausschließlich an bewegter Luft, so lange es dauert: kein Heizgerät, kein Backofen, keine Flamme – all das zerstört Polyester dauerhaft. Der PM142S F1-85 kommt trocken und ungeölt zurück; das Wartungsblatt finden Sie im Reiter „Downloads".
Passgenauigkeit & Kompatibilität
Gefertigt für die BMW R 1250 RT von 2019 bis 2023, eingesetzt im Serien-Luftfilterkasten ohne jede Änderung. Drei Maschinen tragen diese Teilenummer – die R, die RS und die RT, allesamt der 1250er-Generation – und jede ist mit ihren Baujahren im Reiter „Fitment" gelistet.
