Das ist eine wirklich große Zahl, ehrlich erreicht, und es lohnt sich, klar zu sehen, was eine Obergrenze ist: ein Limit, das nur für das relevant ist, was gegen sie drückt.

Ein Wert ist keine Menge
Durchflusswerte in diesem Katalog beschreiben einen Quadratmeter Material für eine Sekunde Zeit, was der einzig faire Weg ist, Medien unterschiedlicher Form zu vergleichen. Um herauszufinden, was ein Element durchlässt, multipliziert man mit seiner Fläche, sodass die verdoppelte Fläche hier tatsächlich das Maximum verdoppelt, das das Teil je liefern könnte. Der Motor verlangt jedoch, was er verlangt. Ein Boxer-Zweizylinder dieser Größe zieht bei Straßendrehzahlen nur einen Bruchteil dessen, was das Standardgewebe bereits liefert, und eine ungenutzte Reserve zu vervielfachen ergibt eine größere ungenutzte Reserve.
Wann die Reserve genutzt wird
Auf einer geschlossenen Rennstrecke und in der Praxis fast nirgends sonst. Dort wird der Vollgaszustand bewusst gehalten, am Stück zwanzig Minuten lang wiederholt, und das durchflussstärkste verfügbare Gewebe hört auf, Dekoration zu sein. Eine verkleidete RS auf öffentlicher Straße erreicht diesen Zustand für ein, zwei Sekunden zwischen Gangwechseln, bevor Verkehr, eine Kurve oder das Gesetz ihm ein Ende setzen. So oder so ist es kein Leistungsteil: Kein Filter, der in einen Serien-Luftfilterkasten eingesetzt wird, macht eine Standard-R-1200-RS spürbar schneller, weil Ansaugung, Einspritzung und Auspuff als ein Stück Arbeit entwickelt wurden. Was die verdoppelte Fläche zuverlässig erkauft, ist eine längere Strecke zwischen den Services.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft auf der sauberen Seite, nach außen gearbeitet, und das Gewebe ist wieder offen – bei einem Gewebe sitzt die Last an der Oberfläche und nicht in der Tiefe, weshalb die Arbeit schnell geht. Hat sich etwas festgesetzt, das Luft nicht löst, erledigen warmes Wasser und die geringste noch wirksame Menge mildes Spülmittel den Rest, und das Spülen geht weiter, bis nichts mehr aus dem Gewebe austritt. Das Element trocknet dann vollständig an zirkulierender Luft, ohne jede Art von Wärme und ohne Flamme in der Nähe, und das K142S F1-85 wird trocken und ungeölt wieder eingebaut. Passform & Kompatibilität
Für die BMW R 1200 RS, gebaut ab 2015 bis 2018, im Standard-Luftfilterkasten ohne jede Veränderung.
