Warum diese Größe überall auftaucht
Weil sie zu einem breiten Motorenband passt. Vierzig Millimeter tragen die Leistung eines großen Twins oder eines Mittelklasse-Vierzylinders, ohne das Gas zu bremsen, und sind klein genug, um an Federbein und Schwinge vorbeigeführt zu werden.
Es ist außerdem der Innendurchmesser mehrerer Spark-dB-Killer — des weiten Force-Einsatzes, des weiten Moto-GP-Einsatzes, des 40-mm-Grid-O und des Force-Evo-/Konix-Evo-Stopfens. Jene Teile und dieses Rohr sind für dieselbe Maschinenklasse bemessen.
Selbst biegen
Vierzig Millimeter bei einem Millimeter Wand biegt sich auf einer Dornbiegemaschine und knickt auf einer billigen hydraulischen. Ohne Zugang zu einer Dornmaschine kaufen Sie Sparks fertige Bögen — die 30°-, 45°- und 90°-Artikel gibt es genau deshalb, damit ein Aufbauer ohne Biegemaschine trotzdem eine Anlage bauen kann.
Rückfederung ist real: Edelstahl geht nach dem Lösen um vier bis acht Grad zurück, ein 45°-Bogen muss also über 50 hinaus gezogen werden.
Wanddünnung
Die Außenseite jedes Bogens streckt sich und wird dünner. Auf einer Dornbiegung mit vernünftigem Radius ist der Verlust gering; bei einem engen Bogen kann ein Drittel der Wand verschwinden. Das ist das Argument für Werksbögen bei engen Radien und Eigenbau bei sanften.
Die Innenseite des Schnitts
Entgraten Sie jeden Schnitt innen wie außen. Bei vierzig Millimetern sitzt ein Grat an der Bohrung direkt im Gasweg, sammelt Ruß und verhindert, dass eine Steckverbindung sauber aufsitzt. Eine Rundfeile und eine halbe Minute erledigen es — und es ist der Schritt, der am häufigsten ausgelassen wird.
