Der Tag, an dem die Anlage herunter muss
Ein Hinterreifen, eine Kette, ein Federbein, ein Radlager — irgendwann muss der Auspuff von einem Motorrad, das nicht mehr neu ist. Eine verschweißte Strecke muss als Ganzes herausmanövriert werden, meist an einer Schwinge vorbei und um einen Rastenhalter herum. Eine Strecke mit einer Verbindung an der Ecke hebt sich in zwei Hälften heraus.

Fünfzig innen, zweiundfünfzig außen
Ein Millimeter Wand auf jeder Seite bedeutet, dass die Bohrung exakt dem Außendurchmesser der Standardgröße entspricht. Nichts wird aufgeweitet, eingezogen oder nachgearbeitet: Das Rohr geht hinein, die Federn kommen dran, die Ecke ist fertig.
Federn und Haken
Spark verkauft die Federn in zwei Längen, mit oder ohne Gummihülle, und passende Haken in Edelstahl oder Titan. Zwei je Verbindung an gegenüberliegenden Seiten ist die Anordnung, die Spark an den eigenen Anlagen nutzt; drei sind nicht besser, und eine lässt die Verbindung kippeln.
Die Gummihülle ist keine Zierde — sie verhindert, dass die Feder im Leerlauf am Rohr klingelt.
Ruß im Spalt
Eine Steckverbindung, die eine Saison gelaufen ist, lässt sich nicht einfach auseinanderziehen: Im Überlappungsbereich baut sich Ruß auf und verriegelt sie. Das äußere Teil vorsichtig erwärmen und drehen statt ziehen; gegen einen dünnwandigen Bogen zu hebeln verformt die Muffe dauerhaft.
Woher dieser Durchmesser kommt
Zweiundfünfzig steht in Sparks Programm, weil Sparks eigene Auspuffanlagen durchgehend gefederte Steckverbindungen nutzen — und eine Steckverbindung braucht eine weibliche Hälfte. Ein Lieferant, der nur zu runden Zahlen baut, hat keinen Grund, das Werkzeug zu besitzen.
