Am Lager vorbei
Das Schwingenlager ist an jedem Motorrad ein fester Punkt, und der Auspuff muss daran vorbei, während er nach außen dreht. Für einen sanften Schwung ist dort selten Platz, ein rechter Winkel ist also das, was zwischen Lager und Rahmen hineingeht.
Prüfen Sie den Abstand bei voll eingefederter Schwinge, nicht in Ruhelage. Der Spalt, der auf dem Montageständer großzügig aussieht, ist nicht der Spalt, den das Rohr auf einer holprigen Straße mit Sozius hat.
Reihenfolge des Zusammenbaus
Ein rechter Winkel, der an ein Rahmenteil geschmiegt ist, lässt keinen Platz für einen Brenner, sobald die umgebenden Teile sitzen. Legen Sie die Schweißfolge fest, bevor irgendetwas geheftet wird: Was später unzugänglich wird, kommt zuerst dran, das Offene zuletzt.
Es ist der übliche Grund, warum eine Eigenbauanlage eine schlecht aussehende Naht hat.
Hitzeband und was es anrichtet
Einen Bogen zu umwickeln hält Wärme im Gas und von den Nachbarteilen fern — und hält zugleich Feuchtigkeit am Metall. An einem Straßenmotorrad korrodiert diese Kombination Edelstahl von außen nach innen, unter dem Band, wo niemand hinsieht.
An einem trocken gefahrenen Rennstreckenmotorrad ist es unproblematisch. An allem, was Regen sieht, ist ein Blech die bessere Antwort.
Den echten Winkel messen
Ein digitaler Winkelmesser an den beiden geraden Enden liefert den wirklichen Wert. Augenmaß nicht — und ein halbes Grad an der ersten Ecke wird am Schalldämpfer zu einem Zentimeter.
Wie viele eine Anlage braucht
Die meisten Eigenbaustrecken an einer Mittelklassemaschine brauchen einen rechten Winkel und zwei bis drei flachere Bögen. Einen Ersatz vom Neunziger zu haben ist mehr wert als von allem anderen — er hat den geringsten Spielraum für Fehler und lässt sich aus keinem flacheren Artikel improvisieren.
