Eine schärfere Wende in großem Querschnitt
Bei siebzig Millimetern ist ein 45°-Bogen ein erhebliches Stück Metallarbeit: langer Schwenk, großer Querschnitt, und die Baugruppe, zu der er gehört, ist meist eine Box oder ein Dämpfergehäuse statt einer Rohrleitung.
Wo ein 30°-Bogen einer Hülle eine sanfte Krümmung gibt, dreht ein Fünfundvierziger sie — um das Ende einer Schwinge, hinter einen Heckrahmen, in einen Raum, den der gerade Abschnitt nicht erreicht.
Die Grenze eines Dorns
Jeder Dorn hat einen Mindestradius, unter dem er die Wand nicht mehr stützt, sondern mitzieht. Bei siebzig Millimetern in 1,2 mm ist diese Grenze früher erreicht als bei vierzig — deshalb schwenken große Bögen weit aus. Das ist keine Designentscheidung, sondern die Folge dessen, was das Werkzeug leisten kann, ohne den Querschnitt zu ruinieren.

Messen Sie den Bogen, nicht den Winkel. Ein 45°-Bogen in diesem Durchmesser nimmt weit mehr Raum ein, als die Zahl vermuten lässt — und an einem Motorrad teilt er sich diesen Raum meist mit dem Hinterrad.
Was der Bogen wiegt
Ein 45°-Bogen in siebzig Millimetern und 1,2 mm Wand wiegt gut vierhundert Gramm. An diesem Ende des Programms wird das Material zu einem echten Teil des Endgewichts, und eine Box mit zwei solchen Ecken trägt fast ein Kilogramm allein in ihren Krümmungen.
Einen großen Bogen rechtwinklig schneiden
Ein halbes Grad Fehler über siebzig Millimeter sind mehr als ein halber Millimeter Spalt auf der Gegenseite. Eine Bandsäge mit ordentlicher Prismenauflage schlägt hier den Winkelschleifer deutlich, und eine Papierschablone das freihändige Anreißen.
Beim Auspacken prüfen
Ein dünnwandiger Bogen dieser Größe ist das Teil, das am ehesten verbeult ankommt, wenn ein Spediteur etwas auf den Karton stellt. Messen Sie beide geraden Enden in zwei Achsen, bevor irgendetwas geschnitten wird — ein unrund angekommenes Teil ist rücksendbar, ein gekürztes nicht mehr.
