Der Winkel ab Sammler
Ein Vier-in-Eins-Sammler verlässt den Motor in der Richtung, die die Krümmergeometrie vorgibt, und das ist fast nie dort, wo der Schalldämpfer sein will. Der erste Bogen danach leistet den größten einzelnen Richtungswechsel der ganzen Anlage.
Fünfundvierzig genügt meist. Wo nicht, deckt ein Fünfundvierziger gefolgt von einem Dreißiger einen weiteren Schwenk ab — mit weniger Strömungsverlust als ein einzelner rechter Winkel gleichen Gesamtwinkels.
Strömung durch zwei Bögen
Eine Wende in zwei flachere zu teilen und das Gas dazwischen zur Ruhe kommen zu lassen kostet weniger, als sie in einem Zug zu nehmen — vorausgesetzt, dazwischen liegt eine Gerade. Setzt man zwei Bögen direkt aneinander, verschwindet der Vorteil: Die Strömung erholt sich nicht, bevor die zweite Störung kommt.
Zwei Rohrdurchmesser Gerade sind ein vernünftiges Minimum. Drei sind besser.
Wo der Durchmesser hingehört
Hinter dem Sammler eines Mittelklasse-Vierzylinders oder als gesamte Strecke ab der Krümmerzusammenführung an einem großen Twin. Fünfundvierzig bis sechzig Millimeter ist das übliche Band für diesen Abschnitt, und achtundvierzig liegt in dessen Mitte.
Warum in dieser Größe ein Werksbogen
Achtundvierzig Millimeter in einem Millimeter Wand bei fünfundvierzig Grad liegen jenseits dessen, was eine Werkstattmaschine formt, ohne die innere Ferse zu falten. Großer Durchmesser, dünne Wand — genau dieses Verhältnis lässt ein Rohr knicken.
Kürzen, ohne das gerade Ende zu verlieren
Die geraden Enden sind es, woran Sie spannen, ausrichten und schweißen. Einen Bogen zu kürzen ist normal, aber nehmen Sie die Länge aus der Krümmung — ein Bogen ohne gerades Ende lässt sich schwer rechtwinklig halten und noch schwerer sauber schweißen.
