Verbindungsrohre über Kreuz
An einem großen V-Twin oder einem Parallel-Twin mit weit auseinanderliegenden Krümmern müssen die beiden Stränge irgendwo zusammenkommen. Ein Paar 45°-Bögen ist der übliche Weg, sie in einen Sammler zu führen, ohne dass ein Rohr in hartem Winkel ankommt.
Gleiche Längen zählen mehr als kurze. Ungleiche Primärrohre an einem Twin verändern den Charakter des Motors, und meist nicht in die Richtung, die der Besitzer wollte.
An einen Krümmerflansch anschließen
Wo eine Eigenbaustrecke auf einen Werkskrümmer trifft, ist die Verbindung ein Flansch oder eine gefederte Steckverbindung — und keine von beiden verträgt einen direkt davor angeschweißten Bogen. Lassen Sie ein kurzes gerades Stück vor dem Flansch, damit die Verbindung unabhängig von der Verdrehung des Bogens ausgerichtet werden kann.
Es bedeutet außerdem, dass sich der Flansch später tauschen lässt, ohne den Bogen herauszuschneiden.
Schweißfolge um eine Krümmung
Vier Punkte heften, die Baugruppe am Motorrad prüfen, dann in gegenüberliegenden Vierteln schweißen. An einem Bogen wirkt der Zug beim Abkühlen entlang der Krümmung statt entlang einer Geraden — die Verformung zeigt sich also als Winkeländerung statt als Versatz in der Naht, schwerer zu erkennen und schwerer zu korrigieren.
Zwei Bögen und eine Gerade
Zwei davon in dieselbe Richtung, mit einer Geraden dazwischen, ergeben einen rechten Winkel mit eingebautem Versatz. Gegeneinander gerichtet ergeben sie ein S. Fast jedes Routing-Problem an einem Motorrad ist eine dieser beiden Formen — und beide bestehen aus diesem Artikel, zweimal.
Rückfederung, und warum sie nicht Ihr Problem ist
Edelstahl federt nach dem Lösen um vier bis acht Grad zurück, weshalb handgebogene Bögen flacher ausfallen als beabsichtigt. Ein Serienbogen hat diese Kompensation im Werkzeug: Er kommt mit gemessenen fünfundvierzig Grad an, nicht mit versuchten.
