Ein Volumen formen
Bei siebzig Millimetern führt ein flacher Bogen selten Gas. Er gibt einem Dämpfergehäuse oder einer Vorschalldämpfer-Box eine Krümmung, damit die Baugruppe der Linie eines Rahmenrohrs oder einer Schwinge folgt, statt sie zu durchschneiden.
Dreißig Grad ist der Winkel, der das leistet, ohne die Hülle zu einer Form zu machen, die sich an beiden Enden schwer schließen lässt — schärfer, und die Endkappen sind keine flachen Scheiben mehr.
Werkzeug, das man sich nicht leihen kann
Diesen Durchmesser zu formen verlangt einen auf die Bohrung abgestimmten Dorn, ein zum Radius passendes Werkzeug und eine Maschine mit der nötigen Kraft. Das ist ein Werkzeugsatz je Durchmesser und Radius — der Grund, warum eine Werkstatt, die wöchentlich 40er Rohr biegt, ihre 70er trotzdem kauft.
Was ohne Dorn passiert
Die innere Ferse faltet. Hat ein großes dünnes Rohr innen am Radius einmal eine Falte, lässt sie sich nicht ausrichten: Das Material ist geknickt statt gestreckt, und der Querschnitt ist dauerhaft kleiner — genau dort, wo das Gas die Richtung wechseln muss.
An eine Fläche anpassen
Eine Box aus diesem Durchmesser trifft irgendwo auf ein flaches Blech — eine Montagefläche, ein Schott, eine Endkappe. Ein großes Rohr rechtwinklig auf eine Fläche zu bringen geht mit einer Schablone leichter als nach Augenmaß: Papier wickeln, anreißen, schneiden, trocken prüfen.
Wärmeeinbringung
1,2 mm nimmt mehr Wärme auf als 1,0 und braucht länger dorthin. Einstellungen von den kleineren Durchmessern ergeben hier eine kalte Raupe, die obenauf sitzt statt einzubinden — sichtbar als erhabene, glänzende Linie, die an den Rändern nicht angeflossen ist.
Lagerung vor dem Einbau
Ein großer dünner Bogen nimmt in einer Werkstatt leicht Schaden. Nicht auf Beton, nicht neben Schleifarbeiten, Enden verschlossen — eingebetteter Schleifstaub ist es, der Edelstahl fleckig rosten lässt.
