Die Strecke bemessen
Fünfundvierzig passt zu einem großen Parallel-Twin, einem V-Twin von 800 bis 1000 cm³ oder dem vorderen Abschnitt eines Vierzylinders vor dem Sammler. Für alles Kleinere wird das Gas langsam, und der Zug von unten geht mit.
Der volle Satz in diesem Durchmesser
Fünfundvierzig ist eine von nur zwei Größen, die Spark durch volle 180 Grad biegt — neben fünfzig. Damit hat dieser Durchmesser die größte Winkelauswahl: dreißig, fünfundvierzig, neunzig und ein vollständiges U.
Wenn ein Entwurf eine Schleife unter dem Sitz vorsieht, ist dies einer der beiden Durchmesser, in denen sie sich ohne das Zusammenschweißen zweier 90°-Bögen bauen lässt.
Eine gekrümmte Verbindung formieren
Ein gerades Rohr zu formieren ist einfach: beide Enden verschließen, mit Argon füllen, schweißen. Eine Strecke mit Bögen hält das Gas anders und braucht länger, um die Luft zu verdrängen — besonders, wenn ein Bogen oben eine Tasche einschließt.
Geben Sie ihr mehr Zeit, als nötig scheint. Eine verzunderte Wurzel im Inneren eines Bogens ist unsichtbar, bis die Naht reißt.
Nahtvorbereitung
Eine Stumpfnaht in einem Millimeter Edelstahl will keine Fase — dafür ist zu wenig Wand da. Sie will einen rechtwinkligen Schnitt, einen engen Spalt und sauberes Metall auf beiden Seiten, mit Aceton abgewischt statt mit Bremsenreiniger.
Dorn statt Presse
Eine Dornbiegemaschine stützt das Rohr beim Umformen von innen, der Querschnitt bleibt rund. Eine Presse quetscht es am Radius flach — genau dort, wo das Gas ohnehin die Richtung wechseln muss. Jeder Spark-Bogen ist dorngeformt, und bei fünfundvierzig Millimetern in einem Millimeter Wand ist das nichts, was eine Werkstattpresse nachmacht.
