Funktion
Die Zuordnung läuft über die Nummer, nicht über ein Maß. Ein Öhlins-Zylinder wird aus dem Vollen bearbeitet, nicht gezogen und nachgerieben. Der Innendurchmesser ist auf wenige Hundertstel toleriert, weil der Kolben ohne Ölverlust gleiten muss. Ein neu gehontes Rohr braucht eine kurze Einlaufphase, bevor die Dämpfung ihren Endwert erreicht.

Öhlins ändert Teile im Laufe einer Baureihe; die Nummer, nicht das Baujahr, sagt, was passt. Verschleiß zeigt sich zuerst an den Dichtflächen; Riefen dort bedeuten meist, dass mehr als eine Position fällig ist. Kommt die Einheit ohnehin auf die Werkbank, lohnt es sich, die benachbarten Verschleißteile mitzubestellen. Was nicht am Lager liegt, ordern wir bei Öhlins nach; die Laufzeit nennen wir vor der Bestellung.

Das Rohr ist innen gehont; von dieser Fläche hängt ab, wie lange die Kolbendichtung hält. Öhlins hält Positionen oft über Modellgenerationen hinweg gleich, tauscht aber ohne Ankündigung Werkstoffe. Bei Dichtungen und Führungen entscheidet ein Hundertstel Millimeter darüber, ob die Einheit dicht bleibt.
