Funktion
Zu dieser Position nennt Öhlins kein Maß; maßgeblich ist die Zeichnung der Einheit. Auf dem Kolben sitzt das Shimpaket, das den Durchfluss geschwindigkeitsabhängig regelt. Der Sitz muss dicht schließen, sonst fehlt die Dämpfung im ersten Teil des Hubs. Öhlins stimmt Kolben und Shimpaket als Einheit ab; einzeln getauscht ändert sich die Charakteristik.

Wer die Einheit selbst zerlegt, sollte die Nummern vor dem Ausbau notieren; hinterher sind sie schwer zu lesen. Wer sein Fahrwerk regelmäßig warten lässt, kommt mit wenigen Positionen aus; wer wartet, tauscht ganze Baugruppen. Bei größeren Überholungen prüfen wir vorab, welche Positionen zusammengehören. Kommt die Einheit ohnehin auf die Werkbank, lohnt es sich, die benachbarten Verschleißteile mitzubestellen.
Serienmäßige Positionen halten wir vorrätig; Sonderteile bestellen wir gezielt. Serviceteile sind das, was ein Fahrwerk vom Verbrauchsartikel unterscheidet. Die Auflagefläche für die Shims muss eben sein, sonst schließt das Paket nicht sauber. Der Kolben teilt den Zylinder in zwei Kammern und trägt die Durchflusskanäle. Die Nummer steht in der Explosionszeichnung der Einheit; danach ist die Bestellung eindeutig. Eine korrekt bestückte Überholung stellt das Ansprechverhalten wieder her, das ein müder Dämpfer verloren hat.
